i have already written this but the short of it is that pushing Biden out and sidelining his VP is a very efficient way of tearing the Democratic Party apart at the seams.

Exactly, the train had already left the station on this. If they were going to do a swap out, it would have had to been during spring. The way you're going to swap out now is if something major were to happen? And I don't think we need one. We will be fine. Biden is fine. He had a cold per the WH.

I read each and every one of your NYT columns and always say you’re the best political writer in the US. I’m not convinced, but, as I said, let’s have Harris then! Otherwise Dems and democracy are going to lose. Better a possibility than a certainty. I do not fancy being an immigrant in Trump’s USA.

In concrete terms, voters have very little relationship to the formal party infrastructure, so outside of primaries the only other figure with national level democratic legitimacy is the VP. Even as a though experiment you couldn’t rely on local party orgs to hold flash caucuses.

Agreed. But the same thing will be accomplished, if less efficiently, if the Democrats' braintrust continues to cover it's collective eyes and chants la-la-la-la-la while following the current enfeebled grandpa into battle. Our eyes were not lying the other night. Joe was great but now he's done...
