this decision by the MLB that gambling is bad is brought to you by MLB partners FanDuel and Draft Kings sign up now for $300 in free bets with promotional code “TUCUPITA”
My husband (who has an entire rant about this) says they can start banning players once they’ve fired every suit who approved those sponsorships (and I’ll add “and given all the money back”)
On one hand, betting on your own games was always a show-stopper, so the punishment is reasonable. OTOH, when you take money from betting sites (which are pretty much scams) you're going to have your honesty questioned.
Pro sports are going to find out how much their reputations are worth.
Pretty cool how money is more important than any sense of dignity even in industries worth billions.
How much would it cost MLB to not take gambling $$$? Was the next bid that much lower? Or did they just not give a shit at all? Was there even debate?
Look its not hard to just not bet on your own sport. Its not rocket science. Draft Kings tells you what sport you are betting on. Just choose one of the eleventy billion other sports to bet on.
Yep.
"San Diego Padres Shortstop Tucupita Marcano banned for life by MLB for betting on games. But you'll be bummed for life if you miss out on our $1000 first bettor guarantee! Bet on the upcoming Padres series vs. the Diamondbacks, and if you lose, we'll make a vague attempt to repay you."
I feel like betting on or against your team's success is a pretty clear red line.
I also quite dislike the proliferation of sports betting besides, but I suppose the bar is pretty low in a post-FTX world.
I dunno, maybe they will lighten up on the heavy gambling ads now?
Wait, just have to slip in the update on the best prop bets and who the hot fantasy players are. 🤦♂️
