On one hand, betting on your own games was always a show-stopper, so the punishment is reasonable. OTOH, when you take money from betting sites (which are pretty much scams) you're going to have your honesty questioned. Pro sports are going to find out how much their reputations are worth.

Pretty cool how money is more important than any sense of dignity even in industries worth billions. How much would it cost MLB to not take gambling $$$? Was the next bid that much lower? Or did they just not give a shit at all? Was there even debate?
