This is also why there is this dissonance between finding a recording that implies the place you’re stood in should be completely abandoned, which is was on launch… only for the aforementioned update to stock it with a story NPC.

GDC does not pay speakers (I know) but there's support funds now for speakers who need it in order to attend. I think a lot of people still don't know this so wanted to highlight it.

It is important to remember that if there is a change in government, things aren’t going to magically shift overnight. Even after a stable period, transitions take time and nothing can change on the first week. And this has hardly been stable.

I agree with you in regards to tone and visuals. You’re right, it feels like a different game. Honestly I wish they didn’t replace the original DS release on PC with the “Remastered” version as it, too, loses a lot of the feeling of the original release (and on PC is almost as buggy anyway).

Randomly thinking about how Metal Gear Solid 2 asks you at the start of the game if you know the story to the previous entry. If you say no, it skips the whole boat prologue to set up an attempt at mystery as to who Snake is, and I just think that’s neat.
