There's a reason the term omerta is also used in pro cycling.

Why couldn't the American doper die of a drug overdose and Marco could be there to fire a starter's pistol this morning as his Mama watches?

Let me see if I've got this right: A young man named Frank van den Broucke has his breakout performance on a stage finishing in the town Marco Pantani died in, then the next day's start is in Pantani's birthplace? #ciclismo

I agree he's not top tier. He has a GT win and a 2nd place though, which none of Yates, Ayuso, Vlasov or Almeida have. I think he's in the same 2nd tier as them when he's healthy. My point was you wouldn't want to gift any of them time early in the race, allowing their leader to play off of that.

There are 2-3 guys on that UAE team you would not want gaining time in early breakaways. So if UAE can get Yates/Ayuso/Almeida up the road, that will be interesting. Bora have Hindley and Vlasov, but I feel like there is less trust on that team. I don't think Rogla would want to play those cards.

The Rock & Roll Extreme (the blue one) has the lowest friction of any of their lubes, and lower than nearly all non-wax lubes. It's also designed for wet conditions. I used it for years on all my bikes before I switched to a wax-based lube, and I still use it on my commuter.

No idea why it's the case here, but the majority of houses built prior to 1980 or so have no basements or second floors.

Thinking about it more, I think this is perhaps why gluing tires was always considered more art than science. Barring failure or removing the tire, there wasn't a great way to evaluate the glue job. Thus, everyone's dumbass opinion could be valid. Tubeless, while inconsistent, is more binary.

Right, road riders should generally not worry about tubulars for anything but hill climbs and l'Eroica.

The rolling resistance advantage no longer exists sine tire companies have continued to develop/improve their tubeless offerings, not tubular. The weight advantage is only an issue where UCI rules don't apply, and for pure hill climb events.

Like, if your rim has ferrules you should literally feel them as little bumps against the broomstick.

You need psi at 0-15 for the broomstick to do anything, you're pressing the center of the tire against the center of the rim. More than 15 psi prevents this.

There's two ways to figure out how good a glue job was: 1. By rolling a tire and crashing, which tells you only that adhesion was insufficient. 2. Forensic investigation after removing the flat/worn tire. Was there uniform adhesion across the rim bed? Any moisture contamination?

It often does, but you won't know if it doesn't. The broomstick gives you a better shot at that actually happening, while also pushing out any air bubbles.

Electrical tape is perfect for this. If you do ever find curved tape, make sure to get 700c instead of 650b or 26".

It's to make get maximum contact area actually glued. The curvature of a tire doesn't always match the rim perfectly, but you won't see that from the edge - it will be the center that's "loose." If glue gets pushed out, you used too much on your final coat. another reason to mask off the side.

If he's going to the trouble of getting a 1000g wheelset for a single event, adding rolling resistance works against that. Effeto Mariposa themselves admitted it adds a bit of rolling resistance compared to a good glue, like any tape will.

Taping sidewalls just makes it look cleaner, and is more important on rim-brake wheels. Takes less time than cleaning off glue after you're done, looks cleaner and tidier.

Pre-stretching means putting the new tire on a rim, inflate to max psi, and let it sit at least 24h. Makes it easier to mount the tire on the rim once you're ready to glue. Broomstick trick: as soon as you mount the tire with glue, roll it down a broomstick to push the center against the rim.

Vittoria does do things aimed at issues like health and sustainability. I assume you've got good instructions and a plan. I would emphasize the pre-stretching and broomstick steps. Also taping off the rim sidewalls.

Oh yeah, for road use no need to tape. Tape is actually bad for that use case (increases rolling resistance). Road level pressure also helps hold the tire on the rim much better than for cx.

I'm not familiar with the new Vittoria glue, but I will point out that water-based paints and adhesives do not dissolve in water once cured. Bigger issue for gluing cx tires in 2024 is where you're sourcing tape, assuming you're gluing & taping, and how that tape interacts with this glue.
