Lifetime caps: some insurers would say that once a person had run up a (lifetime) bill of $2M or so, they were no longer insurable, kicked forever to Medicaid and Medicare. NICU nurses told me abt pre-ACA kids who would hit their lifetime cap before their first breath of fresh air.

For sure, that's not where we (rich people in rich countries) are today. But for me, I know I am three generations from a world that ended, and so it's very possible to imagine that the world can end again in three generations.

My great-grandfather died during the famine in China in the 30s. Before he died, he told my grandfather (12yo) to abandon his younger sisters and save himself. He did, and he was the only survivor. In some places, at some times, the world really *is* dying, and people say what they gotta say.

I would *NOT* touch a newly built home, inspected by Remote Inspections. They could be Leaky Homes 2.0.

It's worth noting that leaky/rotting homes were a product of Building de-regulation in 1991. (The same de-regulation that saw Mines Inspectors reduce in number.)

Worked well - I think I always just go "ahhh this is too runny" early on and add too much polenta, when I just needed to chill and wait and keep stirring.

Vaguely! 2 cups stock, 2 cups milk, 3/4 grits (I just had fine polenta, which was too fine I think). Bring liquids to low boil, stir in, the simmer on low heat and keep stirring for 10 mins. Cover and cook other stuff.

I got certified! The grits turned out great! But I ran out of bowls and had to serve in plastic bowls (certification revoked).

...builds them into the poll, but you won't know that priming is done unless you read the whole script (which nobody does, assuming they even can). That's why all polls (except this one) are bad.

It treats opinions as extremely contextual and prone to priming, AND it tests specific types of priming and measures its effect. Normal polls measure opinions that are just as contextual and dependant on priming, but leaves them to chance, to the news of the day (over many days), or worse...

if you ever donated a 24” iMac to my recycling shenanigans, you might like to know that these three friends outlasted the charity to which they were donated, and are here being refurbished for a second time. The Jobs-era Apple did not suck.

at some point, a man must confront the fact that he is not the kind of man who needs this many pairs of precision pliers (a wire artist? a builder of toes for tiny tiny robots?)

Are you reading the software leasing part? I think that's a weird arrangement that is NOT the same as software as a service. Also, even if you're thinking of the licence/subscription as an asset, it is by definition worth $0 after one year, so it'd be perfectly reasonable to depreciate it 100%?

But you're not buying software, you're just paying for a subscription - so it's just a regular expense? (e.g. A car is a capital purchase but renting a car is just an expenses)

This is particularly important to understand because Trumpist authoritarianism is the descendent of Jim Crow far more than say Hitler or Pinochet or Orban, and it's going to look a lot more like 1930s Mississippi than 1930s Berlin.

The energy usage is 10x though, so for me that's about 200w+ per room, x3 rooms x8 hrs per day, @20c per kwh, that's a good $350 a year!

Two of the shonky bathroom bulbs (weird little exposed fittings) have blown and we haven't even been here a month. All of that shit has got to go, and it's going to cost what, $1k? Basic shit, pays for itself in a year or two, but previous investor owner just had no reason to do it.

Anyway, we're just in the process of converting a dual key rental for us to live in, and everything is dumb. It's a 10yo property and there're 300w of halogen bulbs in every room and it's still dim as shit.

It's not even a matter of "squeezing the most people in there", or "maximise rental yield", but stuff to do with financing for property investors and the logistics of property management.

One quirk of building stuff for renting out is that the customer is not the renter who lives in it, it's the investor who buys it to rent out, and the requirements of the two aren't the same...

Nah, this is a very functional threat. It's preemptively blaming the left (if there's violence, it's the left's fault), provoking the left (we're doing a Second Revolution, come get some), and intimidating the left (if you resist, we'll respond with violence (which is your fault)). It's preparation.
