Hmmm... I don't know that they are Christians... More like "Christians in name only". They sure as hell don't follow the teachings of Christ.
I say that, simply because I know a significant number of ACTUAL Christians that DO follow those teachings, and they are honestly good humans.
And they would say the same thing about your good Christian friends.
Saying Christian inherently means good is Christian supremacy. If you're not on the side of Christian supremacists, why would you support that view?
They think they're Christians, so surely that's enough.
I get the desire to want to other them and say "they're not like us and they're not part of us" but that's not how it works when people who share your broad religiocultural background are being shitty.
It's weird to admit it, but the "No True Scotsman" logical fallacy is not an actual logical fallacy. No TRUE logical fallacy would be used to deny the existence and identity of other people!
If Muslims have to deal with being lumped in with terrorists, so do Christians.
I'm not accusing you of doing that - for all I know, you feel the same way about vile things done in the name of Islam. I'm just saying you can't No True Scotsman one and not the other.
No, they're Christians from any kind of cultural or comparative religion framework.
"No true Christian" just lets Christianity of the hook for empowering these fucks.
Who gets to decide what those teachings mean? Bc different Christians have different opinions and interpretations of what things mean. How "good" does a person need to be to keep their Christian-ness? Bc there are folks out there doing terrible things and they do them very much in Christ's name.
The Christofascists have been extremely successful in making their version of Christianity what the average non-church-going-cultural christian thinks 'Christianity' is. They have successfully claimed the label. 'They aren't real Christians'. Yeah, trumpists weren't real republicans either, once.
Oh great, another go at the No True Scotsman argument.
If you're Christian, take responsibility for your wayward sheep. If you are not, why are you arguing about their theological issues using their texts?
They are Christians. Trying to minimize their association with Christianity is ignorant at best and dishonest at worst. They are Christian Nationalists and trying to argue the minutiae distracts from the actual harm they are causing.
Clearly I touched a nerve. I myself am an atheist. I have a number of friends who consider themselves Christian. They hate Trump, they are disgusted by what they're seeing, and have stepped away from their churches that promote anger and hate. What are they, if not Christian?
No group of Christians follow the teachings of Christ, you absolute airport vending machine tuna sandwich
"Honestly good humans" to others that look like you. There are enough poor and dispossessed in literal of view of me right now to tell me that all these Christians follow Republican Jesus
Christian is as Christian does, and Christian frequently does crime. Some Christians don't, but some Christians definitely do bad things while also being Christians.
