I’ve seen online communities you noobs wouldn’t believe. Attacking comments in the forums of Usenet. I’ve seen Geocities blinking under a million construction GIFS, and threaded flame wars spanning hundreds of LiveJournals. These memories will be lost…like tears in rain…

It has been more bananas than I thought it possibly could’ve been having a child in 2022 amidst an ongoing pandemic. Even more social isolation than normal and people not giving a shit about the health of your child and everything back to normal for children despite ongoing illnesses for them… :(

Today, on Juneteenth, if you are a descendant of a formerly enslaved person I invite you to take a moment to acknowledge, mourn, and cherish all it means. If you are a descendant of a people who benefited from slavery I invite you to explore what steps remain to address the legacy of that injustice.

Yea it really required a lot of things to align and a lot of luck. I’m hoping things will be better in the future for me but, until then I feel pretty sad and isolated from a thing that was such a huge part of my life in the before times :(

Yea I really just keep waiting for things to improve and they’re actively getting worse! Whole prta of the world that used to be such a big part of my life are now just inaccessible. It really makes sense why I feel so isolated a lot of the time, on top of parenting etc

lol my sibling in Christ. Yea that’s how I feel too.
I ran a lot of panels as well and now just… don’t. I’m certain it’s hurt my business. I keep hoping next year will be the year and things just keep getting actively worse

I miss going to game conventions
Pre 2020 I attended multiple conventions a year and sell my games, promote, gather with colleagues, play games, party, dine with friends all over the world
I haven’t done it in four years and I’m starting to feel really sad about it
Cost, risk, childcare too much

In the weeks after President Biden's administration, the Union of Concerned Scientists asked me to write a reach-for-the-stars wildest-dream wishlist for science policy.
I wrote it, and was shocked to learn that they had already done everything on it.

If you can’t bring yourself to admit that we need masks for wildfire smoke, Covid and whatever the next pandemic will be, I hope you can at least see that this is about intensifying hyper surveillance and comes straight from the cops.

Hahahah yes! Imagine!!!
Anyway it’s hard to be visible these days beyond insular ways. Maybe insular and local is just best for our current world and economy! I have no answers but want to hear what others think might be ways forward

Absolutely! A major problem with internet archives during the 2000-2020 era in general. But yea our constant loss of history in ttrpgs is astounding lol. Some academia is picking this up but can only do so much and most people don’t read! We need people’s history or something.
