The United States has always been a democracy for some and a brutal authoritarian regime for others, and the effort to expand it to democracy for all has led to a 70+ year backlash culminating in SCOTUS claiming that kings are totes cool and also judges are the ones to coronate them

As it happens, I sidestepped into science writing through filmmaking! I was a generalist producer/editor for a while, then started writing and directing museum exhibit videos, and then later shifted into science journalism. It's not how everyone does it, but it worked for me!

In fact, the unexpected use of poetry to promote a natural history book is giving me ideas, who out there reviews science books & secretly wants to experiment with limericks, haikus, acrostics or epigrams

My favorite part is before the Table of Contents where Coles includes flattering poems from admirers of his work, truly a baller move

Not only do ants amputate the legs of their injured nestmates, they also evaluate battle wounds first to decide if a mangled limb needs amputation! And ants that receive attention for injuries are more likely to survive than ants that aren't treated! Amazing story by @bittelmethis.bsky.social 🧪
