A brokered Democratic convention, with massive protests just outside the convention hall, is Trump's dream scenario. 24 hours later, I'm astounded at how many people claiming to be worried about an authoritarian America under Trump want to create the perfect storm for him to seize power.

I can't even be surprised. I've already noticed how some people clamor for the authoritarian America, while others make a point of claiming they HATE the authoritarian America and therefore everyone must do the thing that will cause it. Not everybody has to be authentic, or even coherent.

I personally think the Democrats making a real effort to do *something* will serve them better in the long run. Trump is going to win either way, better for the party to be able to counter that they slept-walked into it because Optics.

Prob too late to change nominees, but we’re in this mess because the party establishment picked a weak and elderly nominee in 2020 who only got older and slower and demanding that people clap harder instead of noticing that is not a plan.

It doesn’t have to be brokered if the power centers & big dogs in the party make a deal backstage beforehand, & the leaders of the party with Biden & Harris at the helm announce a replacement ticket. Then the convention can be a celebration of Biden & his legacy & the forward looking party platform

It’s amazing the overreaction to one bad debate. Also, Trump was bad too. He was incoherent and hateful. Just because he says it with gusto doesn’t make it better. It will be like 2016. James Clyburn will tell Biden to get his head out of ass and be himself. Biden will listen and win.

I've changed my thinking on this. After 8 yrs of Trumpian smears + misinfo, it's hard to find truth. I think what happened during the debate was likely a combo of a "cold," age, and cognitive exhaustion related to time of day. (early dementia?) All modern presidents have hidden medical issues. ––>
