The people saying "try being gay in Gaza" as a retort to leftists calling for ceasefire don't seem to realize that it's a *more* principled position than their own. Even homophobes shouldn't be indiscriminately murdered!
The argument from the right makes no sense to people even slightly on the left because to the right, their enemies are inhuman monsters who deserve only suffering and they assume that the left thinks the same way. The right assumes this is a gotcha because to them, it would be.
Mass killings of civilians, children and others who had no part to the slaughter of innocent people in Israel isn’t right. I totally agree that the ones who were responsible should be punished.
Also, there are gay people being killed by israeli bombs in Gaza.
I read a post by a man talking about his partner being killed the previous day.
He was killed that day.
Also, like, if we were gay/queer in Gaza at the moment by far the biggest threat to our lives would still be from the boming???
This is the point of opposing the killing of civilians- they're getting killed regardless of whether they're gay or hate gay people.
"Try being gay in Gaza" Okay? I could try being gay in Israel too and they'd fucking stone me or something. The queerphobia can be challenged AFTER we make sure everybody isn't being murdered.
("all palestinians hate gay people" is a false and reductive view anyway but you can even put that aside and think this a shitty thing to say to queer Jewish people)
