people keep telling me i'm wrong but any change to the ticket raises substantial litigation risk.
i don't care if you think a pledged delegate can switch affiliations after the primary but before the convention and, more importantly, Sam Alito sure as hell doesn't care what you think.

I appreciate @jbouie.bsky.social pressing on the implicit risk involved in the actual mechanics of "choosing a new nominee," although in my darker moments it sort of feels like he's just informed us that the sinking ship we're on has no life rafts. Jump at your peril; or don't, also at your peril.

Biden was the disappointing compromise pick in 2020. He's plainly diminished since then. I don't pretend to have all the process answers to solve all this, but I'm extremely worried about the party's ability to rally support against rising fascism.

And I know the "they" here is a bit ambiguous since party leaders don't have the power they once did. Some of this is systemic. But the results are terrible. In an era when Dem policies enjoy majority support, we're unable to field a candidate who excites anyone about enacting those policies.

There is NO share of the Dem base that is on fire for Biden. It's all "ugh yes I'll vote for him." And if I'm being honest, that's how it felt with Hillary too. They keep choosing candidates who excite no one but are tolerable to a plurality.

Obama was such a once-in-a-generation leader that he generated both 1) a significant share of the Dem base that was absolutely fired up about him and 2) lots of others who were happy to compromise to vote for a leader like him. Since he left, we've had no fire; all compromise

I've been trying to get my head around how the Dems got here, and it feels like since Obama left office, there's been a power vacuum that they've been some combination of unable and unwilling to fill with anything other than former Obama administration officials

Since George W. Bush left office, the Democratic presidential nominees have been:

In the Senate:
- Blumenthal at the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations has unilateral subpoena power.
- Wyden at Finance has similar power.
- Schumer controls dozens of staff that could run an investigation.
But Senators choose to do nothing about the corrupt Court. 1/3

Yeah because the White House was working on a bill to help those with Parkinsonâs disease that was signed this week. This is literal far right disinformation from the New York Times.

1000% agree on asymmetrical media coverage. Itâs inexcusable. I donât know the right answer but Iâm worried about Dems spending months responding to criticism of Biden with âyeah but the NYT sucks.â Even though it does indeed suck!

I reject the idea that it's easier to talk thousands of people in swing states to pretending they didn't see what they saw than it is for Biden to just say, "Yeah, I thought I had this, but life comes at you fast when you're 81."

Giving up hope is also complying with authoritarians in advance. Itâs saying that fascism is inevitable, that there is no other way to be. I know itâs hard to keep hope alive, but I hope you find a way. â¤ď¸
