A ceasefire could seriously calm rising tensions in the region. Hezbollah has threatened Cyprus (likely a ploy to get EU partners to call on Israel not to proceed with expanded war on Leb) & Houthis & IRI are attacking ships in Med now. Foreign fighters could rush into fight too.

Those of us engaged in research w/ human participants and/or sensitive materials need to be alert. Corporations like Adobe and Microsoft are injecting AI everywhere. It violates confidentiality & steals data. Will they offer carveouts for university licenses? Are ethical boards examining the risks?

The images coming out of Rafah are horrific. A friend was worried we were getting desensitised by the constant stream of death, but then comes a new massacre that imprints new images of Israel in our collective minds. The word ‘Israel’ was always triggering. It’s worse now with the live images.

This is Zaid Saeed Khan, the graduating doctoral student at NYU Abu Dhabi. Zaid continues to be detained by Abu Dhabi (please refrain from saying UAE when only one emirate engages in acts of irrational repression) for smuggling a keffiyeh and saying ‘Free Palestine’. Zaid is an MIT graduate, too.

During the graduation ceremony at NYU Abu Dhabi, a PhD graduate of Pakistani origin got on stage and yelled ‘Free Palestine’. The young man, who had managed to smuggle a keffiyeh in spite of the thorough checks at the door, was promptly arrested by security services and detained overnight.

ICJ ordered Israel to stop Rafah assault. The court was not convinced Israel had adequately evacuated or taken proper safety measures to avoid civilian casualties. It demanded Israel open Rafah crossing & allow aid and an investigation on allegations of genocide & called for release of hostages

I see people worrying about war, and honestly folks, I cannot conceive of a scenario (short of a confirmed F-35 hit on the helicopter) that could result in Iran going to war over a helicopter crash. Probably wasn't foul play and even if it was, it'd be humiliating to admit. Eyes back on Rafah!

In 2018, the private jet of Turkish heiress, Mina Basaran, crashed over the Zagros mountains. Sanctions or not, even well maintained private jets can crash in bad weather over that rough terrain.
