You can really feel David Zaslav’s thumb on the scale as CNN insists the trial of Hunter Biden, who has never sought or held office, for allegedly lying in the purchase of a gun he possessed for 11 days in 2018, when his father was not in office, is the week’s most important story.
Media fellatio to balance the “one sided” nature of Trump’s trial, last week. The organizations we know today won’t exist in 2028. Because they aren’t real journalists. They prostitute themselves on the alter of advertising revenue. @brianstelter.bsky.social@chrislhayes.bsky.social
To me, it's only a story because the fact that this trial is happening is proof positive that Joe Biden cares about the rule of law and upholding the norms of America and is 100% against the politicization of the justice system, unlike the GOP
Last I checked their viewership was down in the low 6-figures "average weekday audience of 409,000 viewers" so, like...
No one cares
Literally, no one cares
I think it’s pretty great that conservatives support strict enforcement of gun laws. In particular, they’re going to prosecute everybody with an oxy habit who ever bought a gun
If you haven't figured this out yet, big media "news" is just entertainment commentary segment shows for the low information voter base, nothing more. 90 percent of it is all designed for the polarized political echo chambers of left vs right banality.
Read this in a Business Insider article awhile ago. His friend thought it a flex, but it’s more a Freudian slip: “He's masterful at presenting himself as an aw-shucks guy from Rockland County, but underneath in the middle of a deal he's more aggressive than one of the *great whites* on 'Shark Week.”
For a charge, no less, that seems more likely than not to be invalidated on appeal under Bruen.
(Seriously, there were a lot of addicts with guns in the Revolutionary Era.)
My main interest in the hunter biden trial is that he's a very good lawyer and his legal team are excellent also. I am looking forward to his defense's counterpunches.
That said, i'd rather this had not happened to him. I'm not watching trial coverage. I'll wait for the book.
I'd argue its more John Malone's influence, since he's the reason Zaslav has a job, and explicitly wanted discovery to buy warner because he wanted his own Fox News.
Of a piece with “Trump has joined Tik Tok” being the news of the day.
The remaining few news outlets are having their revenue stolen by Google and Facebook, and soon will have to compete with AI-generated garbage text for viewer's attention.
I mean, it IS important as a matter of contrast.
Joe could 100% spare his son this ordeal by pardoning him and he is choosing to let the law take its course.
Trump would have pardoned Ivanka in a hot second.
With all that airtime, viewers will hear all about how the 18 USC 922(g)(3) charge has been held unconstitutional as-applied in other circuits but he has to go to trial first due to the final judgment rule; or that the gun store employees doctored paperwork but Judge Noreika ruled this inadmissible
The funniest thing about the whole Hunter Biden saga is last year the 5th circuit overturned part of the law that's currently being used to convict him.
As recently as last week, CNN was only averaging 96,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo per night in primetime. I think it's probably dubious that this week's programming will help.
A Trump federal judge didn't delay Hunter's trial till after the election. A Trump federal judge in Florida is helping Trump to get reelected by delaying his trial. Republicans on the Supreme Court still can't figure out that Trump doesn't have total immunity (thus delaying a different Trump trial).
