Thanks! Yeah I mean it’s only been here a couple weeks but it’s right next to the house and I’ve read you need to take immediate action to ensure they don’t go digging tunnels under the foundation

The stuff I’ve read indicates that there is stuff we can try to do to keep them from coming but that once you have one you have to kill it or it won’t leave

As we discussed a while back this kind of thing makes me so sad. Human beings are mortal, full stop. Accepting that is a central part of living a psychologically healthy life.

This is a classic Trump trope, when something might drag him down "I never met the guy" in the face of photos of them bro hugging after a two hour meeting.

Yeah I called a guy who apparently is a local expert. Hope he calls me back and gives me some advice. I’m learning that a house in the woods is a nonstop war of attrition against the woods taking the house back for itself. Kind of beautiful in a way but def frustrating (and expensive!)

Watching the British election returns I feel compelled to point out that the 650 person House of Commons represents 67 million people and the 435 person House of Representatives in the United States represents 333 million. Replace the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929. We deserve representation.

Suprise: unwashed fascist ghoul Matthew Walther - who wrote a column that the New York Times just published advising Americans not to vote - did in fact vote in 2020 and 2022. It’s time for us to stop tolerating these ratfucking liars.

Mark Twain hated the Fourth of July. He was often invited to speak at Independence Day festivities. His audiences assumed that his reliably unpatriotic remarks were tongue-in-cheek jests. But he meant that shit. 1/9

My wife came up with a good theory about why Biden’s advisors let him debate: If he does well, it helps the campaign. If he shows everyone how much he has deteriorated, it helps light a fire under the party to force him to drop out. Win/win and something had to change.

What we are witnessing imo is a relatively ordinary refusal to accept the natural order of things, which includes decay and death. Tragically for us all, the way Biden processes his decay has consequences for essentially every living thing now and for generations to come.

From the bottom of my heart I urge Joe Biden to take a guided psychedelic trip to experience the death of the ego. Getting old and slowing down is difficult, particularly for people who have been active and powerful in youth and even through their 70s.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

This isn’t the 1980s anymore. Politics are different now. You can think it’s unfair, sure; but there’s always a different standard for democrats. Whether it’s fair or not is irrelevant.

I saw someone saying “So what? He had one bad debate! Obama lost both of his debates!” I can’t imagine how one could compare what we saw last week to Obama in any way, at all. Obama was probably the most talented campaigner any of us will ever see in our lifetimes. Just an inane comparison.

Pretending Biden is fine—great, even! Nothing to see here—further erodes people’s trust in the party. And if they don’t trust the party, they’ll stay home. We can’t have that, because it means Trump wins.

And yes the republicans are big fat liars, duh. But I believe it’s important for the democrats to distinguish themselves from the GOP. One way to do that is to be more or less straightforward with voters about what they saw with their own eyes, and act accordingly.

I’m getting the sense that some people think lying to voters and pretending Biden is fit to be president for another four years is somehow a good strategy. I can’t agree. People saw what they saw. They won’t take kindly to the democrats telling them up is down.

When I worked in Minnesota in the legislature, there were bills every year to legalize fireworks. And there would be hearings. And people would be like, “Pfft, who testifies against this? Busybody neighbors?” The actual answer was firefighters and doctors, mostly. Especially eye doctors.

Here’s why Biden is toast: in this situation, any candidate in Biden’s shoes would do a series of events (interviews, press conferences, town halls, etc) to prove they are up to the task. But, Biden isn’t doing that because he can’t. He’s not capable—and that’s not going to change.

New Zealander here. Back in 2017 our Labour Party was 3 weeks out from losing badly to a RW govt that had already misruled for 9 years. Labour’s leader was a decent but uninspiring man. He made way for Jacinda Ardern, just in time. I hope the Dems manage something similar.

That was my initial reaction too but now I’m convinced he should. 51 million people watched the debate and more will see the attack ads using clips from it. The thing I want to know is who the GOP prefers as an opponent.
