The cases probably would have been delayed enough by bullshit motions and appeals that we would have ended up here regardless

This is one of the most dystopian signs I've ever seen. Republicans are quickly turning this country into an unrecognizable freakshow.

nope, lawyer here, he has good reason to call out lawyers in denial. the Supreme Court has amply demonstrated that they will just make shit up if it serves their purposes

I think it could have legs just as much as abortion. The Supreme Court just made it quasi-legal for any future president to disappear and murder anyone as long as they can dress it up in a way that looks official. The only way to stop this now is to amend the Constitution

It sounds like more of an existential fear. Not fear of something that could happen, but fear of the idea of an inescapable void.

I was a naive fool, too. What the hell happened to our profession? Was it all just idealistic nonsense masking a cynical, corrupt system all along? Or has it become corrupted by patient fascists playing the long game? I'm 34, so maybe I just hadn't picked up on the true nature of things yet

Who knows? They're clearly well into "making shit up" to serve their king territory, so I wouldn't put it past them at this point

5/5 It turned out that Trump was right and I was a naive fool. Trump carried around Supreme Court justices in his pocket like so many nickels & dimes.

/8 At any rate, congratulations to the Federalist Society for an achievement beyond the reach of the British, outside the grasp of bloody civil war, impossible to Nazis and Soviets and terrorists: defeating the American idea.

Pretty fucking stupid plan of theirs if it means a president can lock them up or kill them before they get the chance. Whoops!

Roberts's opinion deals mostly in abstractions, since he really, really doesn't want to talk about January 6. But just based on this, it's hard for me to see how a president could be prosecuted for ordering SEAL Team 6 to assassinate a political rival www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23p...

It is within Biden's conclusive and preclusive authority to protect the country from insurrection, and eliminate insurrection leadership to prevent repeat attempts.

look i'll be clear, I will be voting, and encouraging everyone I know to do the same, against donald trump and the end of democracy in this country in november. I do not care if that means i'm voting for a man who is literally dead.

i'm getting so, so tired of the doomerism on here, and the press loves covering shit like a horse race instead of explaining fundamentals and what's at play, a job that seems to fall to @golikehellmachine.com on here.

so here's a thread about why i'd rather be biden — yes, biden — right now

I think that's what it will ultimately come down to in November. There hasn't been enough time for most voters to understand the stakes of the election. People love to shit on the "median voter" but they're not going to vote for full fascism even if they think Biden could become incapacitated.

That's a really great point. I'm reminded of when I read Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. So much of that book was about human culture, politics, and ethics as society changed around the colonization and terraforming of Mars. Good science fiction really embodies your point

I've crawled around on attic joists for many hours at a time doing DIY insulation work, and I think the added toe articulation would probably be handy. I learned many things in that attic, like being hot as fuck in a full tyvek suit is worse than being shirtless in shorts and itchy from fiberglass
