Yeah, it was the first 5 released for previewing. I always thought that was natural, though, because E05 culminates in the "succes" of "solving" the case, and the storytelling transitions to the relationship between Marty & Rust. It's a different dramatic buzz at that point naturally

I get that the TD S01 E08 finale bummed people out beck then because they expected something bigger, but I'm surprised you seem to be downplaying how great E06 & E07 were. I get that some of the fanbase are idiots and NP embarrassed himself this week. Guess I'll go back and re-read those reviews

Gotcha. I know his personality rubbed some people back then, and some felt some character dialogue was noxious (ex: 'The world needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door') or whatever.

I didn't even notice that was even said until it showed up in a Twitter thread. Then they brought in the Tuttle family owning the science lab. The constant displaying of the circle image/tattoo became a bit eye rolling. And then when they jammed in the "time is flat circle" line, give me a break

I'm glad some people liked S04 because S01 is a classic season of television, and it gets people talking about it again, but yeah, S04 is very meh, betrayed by its writing

It should have been left as the stand-alone script it was. The callbacks became gratuitous and laughable as though the writing had no faith in itself

Absolutely, as always. I've learned tons from you over the years, often about things I'd otherwise likely never have an outlet to have ever learned it from

I used to be naive and think the U.S. government should pay for the health care and university education of its citizens since it has the money. Now that I’m older I understand that the U.S. has to give that money to Israel to drop bombs on the health care facilities and universities of other people

Yep. The religious right was always so vapid, and power-hungry, and immoral that this was their natural destiny: a cult wholly devoted to a rapist huckster who shares nothing in common with them except for bigotry.

Nah, sucks but you're underselling Bannon. His "flood the zone” strategy to Trump was/is basically one massive part of the modern day Sun Tzu chess plays for game over for democracy

EMusk has 11 children who'd give him the unconditional love and approval he craves with some time and nurturing. but instead he spends most of his days desperately seeking likes from skeevy dudes on an app he paid billions for and is destroying with the sheer force of his own terrible personality.

reminder that the causation on "economically depressed areas vote for Republicans" is often the opposite direction people think it is. Electing conservatives causes areas to become poorer by pushing out educated workers.

Ginsburg should’ve retired, Obama shouldn’t have been a coward with Garland, moreover Dems should’ve run a less universally hated candidate.

I know twitter is terrible now and was largely terrible for lots of people before. But I still think about the time I got confused about whether some characters on The Wire were saying ‘knockos’ or ‘narcos,’ and David Simon appeared in my mentions to set the record straight. That was pretty fun.

Interesting. Yeah, that's not at all what it was going after. It definitely had sexuality baked in due to the setting, and it's LGBT fabric through many characters without giving too much away. One of 4 female leads story arc does start very rough, and I can see that being ugh, before it's payoff.

I can envision that even as unique as the show was, but ugh, that that dooms a show that ran 4 years is such a collective loss. There's a fantastic overlooked show sitting there for the few who know it exists. Michael Bay produced, killer Toby Stephens performance, etc.

How did Black Sails completely fail to get any traction with critics? It's incredible a drama of this quality existed without any fanfare at all, absolutely blows my mind.
