You would think this would be common sense, but here we are. The rule of law can exist on paper while being stripped away in practice, just like how fascist dictatorships can still hold elections- it's just that the outcome is decided under the table, and the votes are just there for funzies.

I kinda think this but I also think the solution in many contexts is to just be boring big tent social democrats Like I don't really see how "political violence and pinky promises to not misuse it" is more attractive than "tactical voting for the best option and engaging in party democracy"
