Undecided or put-off voters will likely not respond to calls about “saving democracy,” but anyone who lives in a red state rn is probably one degree of separation from someone who has already faced an obstacle to repro care. This is real and urgent.

Every pundit fretting over Biden’s age should mention that he could be a walking corpse and electing him would still be the only way to protect abortion rights.

Totally. The media is mean to Biden, and they are going to be mean to Harris. That's life. It sucks. Politics is dirty. But idk, part of campaigning is being able to help drive the news and get your message out to voters, not just be completely blindsided repeatedly by it.

The Heritage Foundation is funding an opposition researcher who targeted Biden's political appointments to now go after civil servants. I talked to The Guardian about how this connects to a broader pattern of targeting previously anonymous public servants.

Meanwhile, NYT has NEVER reported on the suspected Egyptian payment to Trump in 2016, much less the new news that there's a Chinese link.

Apart from all the rest, just tossing it out there that in the four years that followed LBJ withdrawing, Nixon appointed *four* supreme court justices

If you'd like a genuine discussion on this - on what a successful path forward looks like WITH Biden - I think it would result in a phenomenal article. I follow you because I value what you have to say. I get your frustration. The objective fact is, Biden is an exceptional POTUS, maybe not debater.

So let’s say the Dems replace Biden on the ticket. Press unleashes 3 months of “Dems in Disarray” stories and the replacement candidate gets no traction. Democracy ends.

I'm not above wanting some sort of accountability for Sulzberger contributing to the xfr of our democracy to an authoritarian. 🤔

It's the headline, Mark. The headline is paramount to conveying the message they want as the primary take-away from the article. This is a pattern. It's intentional.

folks gonna miss this from just the headline, but someone should point it out: the lack of live fact-checking by the moderators *was part of the agreement* by the campaigns. It's not just that CNN /didn't/ live fact check it. It's that they /weren't allowed to/.

The other candidates have not been in the sights of the republican propaganda machine. Nor have they been in the sights of the nation-states that wish to weaken the United States. If any one of those were to become nominee, you'd see bad press much worse in substance than what we're seeing on Biden.

This hits the nail on the head. If you've ready any @rvawonk.bsky.social, you know that righteous anger (e.g., anger over the torture of defenseless beings, whether babies, children, puppies, etc.) and fear play perfectly into the playbook of the nation states that are trying to weaken the US.

Joe Biden: Three Weeks and Four Months

Among other things, this post notes how much more stress Biden had been under in the 3 weeks leading up to the debate than he had leading up to SOTU.

I don't disagree. I do wonder how different it would have been if another candidate had won the nomination, though. The decision for MKE to host was made in 2022. I think a lot of people believed there was no way the party would (or maybe even could?) nominate such a loser and criminal.

100%. Ben Wikler and WisDems are amazing. In addition to running up the margin in Madison and Milwaukee, they've upped turnout on college campuses and locked to the suburbs.

@danshafer.bsky.social has done great reporting on this, for anyone unfamiliar with the Recombobulation Area.

Hadn't seen these 2021 Gallup results before, and they're really surprising. Hispanics are reported to be the MOST confident in the criminal legal system. They're at twice the level of whites and Blacks, who are similar on the high end (though Blacks are much more likely to be unhappy w it).
