Sounds like it should be an inspirational LinkedIn post: “Whilst cooking my tea I was I was struck by the realisation that just as onions transform with time and patience into something rich and complex, our work benefits from a thoughtful, steady approach…”

#Affinity is offering their software for a free trial for 6 months. And after that, it's a one-off fee. If you're on the fence wondering if you'd be able to switch from #Adobe but wasn't sure, this is your chance to give an alternative a good test before you decide: youtu.be/IAMgBTRtVJc

New blog post! Read about Posit's new Positron editor, see some of the neat new features it has, and check out the settings and extensions I use. It includes a bonus workaround for connecting to a remote server with SSH! #rstats

The French left-wing coalition projected to come first and Macron’s party second, but based on this graphic you’d think the far-right were victors.

This is indeed grim. I also wonder how much of this the student thinking this is the ‘modern’ gen z way of research vs the boomer/millennial way of doing it. That’s not to say that boomer/millennials don’t have this same attitude - I know a couple of people like this!

This is a flowchart I use with my students, a somewhat more readable version of the Tuilkanov graphic someone shared with me. It demonstrates that AI really sucks at producing facts.

Apparently this is what the result could’ve looked like with PR under AMS, according to the Electoral Reform Society. The Reform share is very scary anyway, this makes it much worse given what we’ve learnt about the candidates.

It’s John Curtice’s moment to shine: “At 10 p.m., before any results have been counted, he will make a big, bold prediction that will be announced on national television: the winner.”

Variation in predicted general election results from 13 MRP polls released in the last month (larger circle=greater differences in MRPs predictions)

Shows how poorly Scotland is served by them and highlights the interesting anomalous constituencies.

It’s #GE2024 week so here’s some charts I made showing how voter registration for the 2024 election compares with 2019, when Corbyn was riding on the wave of a ‘youfquake’. Lots more younger people registered to vote back then but it didn’t lead to a Labour victory.

Today is #ShowYourStripes day here’s the chart for Brighton (alas, Worthing is not on the list).

It’s a fact that 2023 was the hottest year on record, and 2024 has seen another five consecutive months of record heat.

I’ve seen one big house here in Worthing that’s got a quite a few of them. I thought it was pretty weird to see just the one considering the MP has/had a large majority and the local population is classically Tory demographic.

The inverted information hierarchy is important! Scientists think a certain way because we've been trained to - the interested non-scientist absorbs information differently.
