there's nothing wrong with having feelings of despair and futility, but i think it's most responsible to avoid airing all that out in public to the greatest extent possible right now.
we need to cultivate a vengeance-driven, enraged espirit de corps right now, because we need people to fight

He started with some remarks about Trump's conviction at the start of the Middle East speech he's giving right at this moment. It was basically "This was a fair trial, it's disgraceful to call it rigged, respect the rule of law. Now let's talk Israel/Palestine."

Harris Poll: 56% of Americans wrongly believe US is in recession--and most blame Biden:
49% believe the S&P 500 stock market index is down for the year (up ~24% in 2023 & >12% this yr)
49% believe unemployment at a 50-yr high (it's been under 4%, a near 50-yr low).

These @crampell.bsky.social headlines say it all: GOP talking points are out of date. Border crossings have plummeted. As it turns out, having good relationships with allies matters for immigration control. Yup. #ThanksBiden Gift link: wapo.st/3y8mp8f

Not quite your point, but related: speaking as a 32-year-old Jew, one thing I think about a lot is that the Second Intifada was a very big deal when I was a kid (and drove my family to the right on Israel/Palestine) and college kids today have no memory of it.

I think about this a lot too. It's really hard to contextualize what's going on there without having been through at least SOME of that history.

I don’t know why it’s hard for so many people to believe that Columbia’s Jewish students (and esp visibly Jewish/pro-Israel students) could be experiencing harassment at the same time that pro-Palestinian protesters are experiencing harassment but… I believe many people can be simultaneously harmed!

The religion we now call "Catholicism" was founded in 1965. Everything before that is a different religion.

Cannot stop thinking about this. If political pundits aren't going to do the work of understanding policy issues, the least they could do is make an effort to convey basic facts about political process and messaging, the one fucking thing they're allegedly good at.
