Good point. First kickstarter I did was easy. This time Im aiming to do more... but not so much more than I regret all my life decisions.

Kickstarter backing book buyers question... Besides the book, what extras/bonuses would you back if you're buying a book on Kickstarter? Bookmarks? Stickers? Shirts? More books?

Sports coverage in Australia regularly infuriates me. Events like the Olympics or AFL should always be free. 'Oh but who pays for it.' The advertising you dolts.

'Oh but we've always done this and have rules and how could we break with tradition...' Nah, fuck off. What bullshit and absolute disrespect for her. They should already be in the bin, but they need to get out and hop back in again for good measure.

when I was doing research for a piece I wrote on Klute back in 2016, I found this old interview from a '72 issue of Sight & Sound where Pakula discusses Jane Fonda's transcendent scenes with her character Bree's psychiatrist. I still think about this sometimes

One of my greatest delights was getting to interview Julie Peters, a trans woman who kept a growing personal archive of queer history in Australia and in turn became a vital source of trans history in Australia.

Be your own archivist. Shape history.

Hey, Charlie Jane is telling us to have queer archives and be queer archivists (kinda ahead of the trend there *eh hem*) and to preserve memes! SAVE THE MEMES! You can do so by donating money or time to your local queer archive as often as you can; that would be lovely of you.

Pride BEGAN during a time of anti-sodomy laws. The first Pride was a riot against those laws. Pride is celebrated around the world in places where it is much more dangerous to be queer than here. Pride is not dependent on being ALLOWED to be who we are, it’s a promise that we WILL be no matter what

Saw A Quiet Place: Turn the Volume Down today and rather enjoyed it, even though I had quibbles - who doesn't they taste great. The guy behind me spent most of the film gasping, awwing and making Very Concerned Noises whenever the cat was on screen.

The "delete it, who cares?" mindset of a lot of studios now reminds me of how the BBC didn't think it was important to save their history either and mindlessly destroyed millions of pounds worth of their own IP.

Zac the Cat recently swapped from one insulin to a different insulin. Needless to say, after some initial issues, he's feeling much, much better. Case in point: he just carried inside a large (over 0.5kg) rat as a present, of sorts.

I feel like some actors don’t think audiobook narration is real acting, which I don’t get, because have YOU ever had to cry on command in a small booth by yourself, then immediately switch to playing a neutral, coolheaded narrator, then switch back to crying again all within 15 seconds?

Going from Beyond the Sea to... Gender Bender, an episode featuring a gender transforming Amish serial killer, is quite the step. It's clear they had a quarter of an idea which they eagerly just abandon when they realise they've shot enough film. Interesting seeing Nicholas Lea so early too.

Remember, a large portion of silent films are lost, not due to decay or fires, but because they were intentionally junked by their studios. Among the worst was Paramount, aka CBS/Paramount. People come and go. Corporate culture is forever.

Unfortunately, not the only time I've had that kind of conversation. Some of the olde gen (over 50s) really think you 'just buy one man' and that's it.

I gave precious little sympathy and mentioned that I didn't have a house that I owned. 'Just buy one man.' I mentioned how much of a deposit I required and he said 'no way, it's not that much'. Yes mate, it's that much. I'm not owning a home now not ever.

People who have owned a home for a while really have no idea how hard it is to actually buy a property nowadays or how much is required for a deposit. Has a casual convo with a colleague this afternoon and he mentioned how he had to downsize and move into his rental property and how hard that was.
