My older half brother (much older - 70!) is currently half way up Kilimanjaro to raise money for Alzheimer’s society - helping families cope with this devastating condition.Cause close to my heart as my mum suffered with it for many years. The climb is a tribute to her & other lost family members.

Another very interesting expert appointment via the Lords (this time someone already in there): Peter Hendy, former head of TFL, to the Department of Transport. Makes sense as TFL an excellent model for how to run a nationalised* railway. *Let's not open the 'is TFL nationalised or not?' debate.

As per the original Powerhouse plan, a super-city comprising Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds would easily balance out London and drive prosperity right across the North. I hope Starmer makes this a key policy.

Is she not simply trying to whistle to both sides and trusting that no-one picks her up on the inconsistency? Hester gives her a means of attacking Sunak. I doubt she’ll care if her argument isn’t logically flawless.

I find this is one of the things that often surprises American visitors to both London and Paris: that public transport is, by a significant margin, the FASTEST way to travel even relatively long distances.
