It'll be a long project. He's got lots of music out there! So much over the decades he played! But it'll be good, I think. And I'm going to try and learn them, too. On the guitar or the piano. Or both, who knows. Best way to uphold that legacy is music, and building community.

Starting to hunt down every song of Dad's I can find, going to make cds for his brothers. I haven't burned a cd since I was like 16 making mixes, lol. It's... it's emotional. Listening to every song to make sure it's the full version, right, nor cut short or a clip. Voice like no other, Dad.

It was really beautiful to see so many people there for Dad, to know that he really made a difference in people's lives, through teaching and his music. Going to have a big ol' cry now. As Dad said at the end of every show: Take care of each other.

The memorial thing for Dad went well. Lots of laughs, lots of tears, lots of good music. We kids got on stage w/ the musicians & sang the song, no instruments, that he sang at the end of every show when we were wee. No mics, we were a bit of a mess. I'm home, worn right out.

When I worked in places that had shopping carts, going out to collect them and bring them back was the best part of the work day. I got to go outside for a few minutes, see the sun, breathe some fresh air, be free from jackass customers for a bit... I hate the meme, too, for a few reasons.

My Dad once told me a story of a time he played a 4th July festival in AK. Lots of "happy independence day!" said to him (a canadian). He asked a few; "independence from what?" (Reader, he damn well knew.) He said so many were stopped in their tracks, bc they couldn't actually answer. Wild.
