Alaska Airlines is planning for some new and interesting routes this winter.

Notable, however, six of the new routes are 1x weekly and another seven are less than daily. Only five are daily.

All but one are seasonal.

Notably, this issue occurred at an outstation, where the airline does not have spare crew. And there's no way they'd staff every trip with a spare pilot, just in case. It is far cheaper to pay out if an issue occurs, which is rare. But they do have to pay when it happens.

WBD's stock price has tanked ~78% since David Zaslav was announced as CEO— $32.68 on 05/19/21 to $7.32, today— to say nothing of the brand loyalty, goodwill, & creative talent he's destroyed. It is amazing & genuinely horrifying that anyone could fail this badly, & remain in a position of authority

United replies, claiming the DOT issued it an early morning exemption in the past and could still do so again. BTS data, however, suggests UA operated that flight as an 8a departure, not 630a.

My very amateur read of the law suggests JetBlue might be right. Either way, I'm grabbing popcorn.

Despite zero evidence that there's anything wrong with the vote tabulation machines in NH, the GOP here seems keen to spend some additional cash auditing at least eight machines after each election. 🤷‍♂️

The supplemental docs on this are out now, showing the steps to inspect and replace if necessary. Looks like airlines have 120-150 days to get the initial inspection done. And if any generators are found to have been expended they must be replaced before the next flight.

Also, turns out UA's 630a timing is illegal for exemption slots, so that's awkward.

JetBlue's application is also pretty weak, but also probably the last one to be awarded based on the current list of eligibility.

The first inter-airline feedback on the DCA applications is in: JetBlue suggests United's application be disqualified for proposing a time slot that would be illegal to operate.
I think UA wasn't likely to win anyways, but still...

Bit of an own-goal by easyJet advertising that it'll use ACARS to relay scores to pilots to announce to passengers rather than fitting its planes with IFC so passengers can consume whatever information they want during the flight. 🤔

So long as you peg the value of time at $0. Spending 3-4 days driving instead of doing whatever else comes at a cost. As for safety, flying remains far safer than driving as a means of transportation, though you've picked a unique definition of safe here.

Breeze will add service at Portsmouth/Pease, just down the road in NH. PSM gets 2x weekly to both MCO and RSW on an A220.

Great news for me personally, though I'm going to be out of the country for the inaugural. :/

Had my first campaign event of sorts tonight, a meet-and-greet with the Dover Democrats for all the candidates in town.

One of the long-time reps said I appeared very calm when introducing myself and speaking on a couple topics. I'll take that compliment.

Just 119 days to go.

A few months ago I probably would've argued that Southwest was doing fine with feed across the west coast on those routes. After the news a couple weeks back about how terrible the market is performing for them, however, I'm less convinced.

No. But I find it amusing when airlines try to use partial truths to pull one over on the DOT. That usually ends badly for the carriers.

Reiterates claim as only eligible limited incumbent, though the DOT didn't classify it as such initially.

Alaska's pitches prime flight times SAN-DCA, and also promises Hawaii connections, which don't seem to work based on current schedules (maybe HNL-SAN redeye eastbound?).

Also claims "limited incumbent", though others dispute that eligibility.

Southwest proposes LAS, continuing to SMF. Says it expects average fare to be $188 o/w to LAS, undercutting AA's current average of $298.

It also mentions DCA-SMF as a nonstop market in the application, which I assume is a typo?

Also, without knowing the rates at which the capacity is being rented out to its portfolio, this is a great way to ensure that the cash burn as these companies fail to deliver any real value to society remains "in house" rather than being redistributed to others.
