n 1976 a united America celebrated its bicentennial. The top tax rate was 70%. In 2024 a an intentionally divided America celebrates its 248th birthday. The top tax rate is 37%. Concentrated capital is destroying our democracy.

A big Macronist defeat (& Left gain) in Paris: Socialist Emmanuel Grégoire (the chief deputy, and also rival, of Mayor Anne Hidalgo) has won outright in the first round. He ousts the 2022 winner, Macronist Clement Beaune (who was in Macron's cabinet until recently).

I feel like this should go without saying but the only sane & responsible vote is November is the one that prevents Trump from taking office & finishing off American democracy. Unless something extremely surprising happens, that choice will be Joe Biden. And in any event it will be the D nominee.

FRANCE: Exit polls circulating, due to Swiss / Belgium media having no embargo… plus a media source I have! They show what polls found: A strong far-right 1st. Left bloc 2nd. Macron bloc distant 3rd. Various firms finding different gaps between blocs... which is everything.

I think there is a plausible argument that the media which is owned by oligarchs and monopolies who will benefit from lower taxes in a fascist dictatorship have an undermining narrative to stop a successful incumbent with a record economy and surrendering to it with speculation is just enabling.
