I love that you're such an apparent umbraphile. I had many of the same thoughts while looking at eclipse maps for the next decade. (OMG eclipse over Luxor! Only 80% chance of surviving terrorism though. Hmm. Might be worth it.)

I was really lucky in 2019 in Chile. My parents’ home was right in the path of totality, and the sky was as clear as it gets (it is often cloudy in July). We watched it together with the extended family comfortably seated in the terrace.

I managed to see an eclipse totality about 30 miles away from where I was living at the time, which was cool. … I was living on the island of Borneo though… which probably makes the point! 😃
