Same here. The weird part is that I still have a core group from the Usenet days hanging out on Facebook now which means I have been internet-friends (and then often real-world ones too) with those people for well over 1/4 of a century. That sometimes plain astonishes me.

Newsflash, I have very aristocratic cats. I had some prosciutto, and some deli ham, and I was making sandwiches with them to the great interest of the cats. I gave them a piece of the prosciutto and they gulped it down and then I dropped a piece of ham and they were like, "what's THIS, peasant?"

because of a screwup in shipping and a replacement procedure I now have LOOOOOTS of cat food in the house. And the cats seem to know it. THey're in the kitchen with these expressions of "I know you've GOT FOOD squirrelled away WHERE IS IT?"

an author can talk a book up all day long but folks are well aware its our job to sell our books but when readers talk about it? that usually means they really liked it and want to talk about it which is obviously much more convincing than a sales pitch

💙📚 Talk about the books you love. Just posting the book cover and saying the book is significant to you is not enough. The cover alone is just like a pile of promo postcards or bookmarks, sitting unheralded on the bookstore counter (which customers rarely take with them). Your words matter.

I wrote relentlessly alone for years. Then just lucked out into marrying my First Reader, First Editor, and (when necessary) One-Man-Cheering-squad, and I grew to rely on him for my process. When I lost him everything crashed and now I have to re-learn how to write relentlessly alone again...
