Dropped off some books at The People’s Library outside BPL Central Library this morning and picked up a new picture book for my little one. This library shouldn’t be closed! Stop cop city and open the libraries.

Do you ever think about how we’ve all been taught that “no one should be poor, hungry, or homeless” is somehow an extreme radical ideology when it’s actually just basic human empathy?

Apparently most of the smoke from the 2000+ acre uncontained #PostFire is moving south-southeast but here in east LA/SGV we will start getting some smoke by this evening.

It boggles my mind that people want to make the “but the economy is good, actually” because inflation is slowing when that just means EVERYTHING IS STILL GETTING MORE EXPENSIVE ALL THE TIME (but not as more expensive as it *could be*?!) - it’s so so so dumb and it makes me furious

I made a zine titled "White People Hate Protests" which compiled opinion surveys from the 1960s. You can read it here and also share it with people who flap their gums about how so many people supported the tactics of the Black freedom movement of the 60s.: queer.archive.work/library/down...

This is a point that I discuss in the GGLA know your rights training (which is called “Law Isn’t Real”) - the ability to actually file or pursue charges is irrelevant, the goal is control of space and the reestablishment of “order” (capitalist, white supremacist status quo ante)

They want right-wing speech to be protected on campus and people protesting genocide to be ground under. Some people call this hypocrisy, but it's much more sinister than that. These double standards are about HIERARCHY. They're about how the right wants to order the world.

After well over a decade into doing this, having turned it into a viable business and an LLC, the whole system STILL blows and is financially pretty ruinous. I do it because I want the freedom to control my own healthcare and time, but man do you get whacked financially.

“The Center for Democracy and Technology asked teachers last year whether internet filtering and blocking can make it harder for students to complete assignments. Among teachers in schools with high rates of poverty, 62% said yes; among teachers in schools with lower rates, 50% said the same.”

Great job! So many folks have no idea of the many amazing services, programs, and facilities at local libraries - so glad you’re using them and spreading the word!

pretty wild how much mainstream press coverage just elides the fact that Israel's attack on a consulate precipitated this. the general impression to a casual reader at most mainstream outlets would be that Iran launched an unprecedented attack out of no where

Sorry this is going to sound made-up but I’m working at the library. A young girl and her older teen brother are looking at history books. She reads the title “What was The Great Depression?” Then turns to him and says “Wow, they wrote a book about you.” LMAO

Would host a gay history and science bookclub/meetup in a heartbeat if you actually want to do this. I have a PhD in history (especially the gay ye olde kind). I will help you organize if you want!

IT'S FISH DOORBELL SEASON!!!

The time of the year has arrived once again where we have to help the fish of Utrecht get through the lock by opening the door for them when you spot them on the camera.

Regular reminder that we need many more people taking concrete actions to defend, protect and EXPAND public libraries across the country. This includes running for library board seats where that's possible. www.librariesforthepeople.org - Join us in 2024 in this struggle.
