Since COVID it has really sunk home that I should always mask in a hospital because: - there are likely people who are carrying infectious diseases, that I could catch - I might be carrying an infectious disease that an immunocompromised person might catch.

Also, immigrants produced this victory. The actual people who produced this victory were the West Africans & North Africans in France who banded together to fight the far right threat. It's not the time for white people to do their happy smiley let's celebrate revolutionary French people thing.

OK, looking at the US from the relative sanity of Canada, I have to ask: have things gone so rotten that everyday organizing has no chance of fixing the nation? Trump, the decades of Republicans, a stacked Supreme Court all suggest that, short of violent revolution, the US is beyond being repaired.

It's actually staggering what Mali has given. The libraries still preserved in Timbuktu now date from the middle ages with manuscripts that old still in regular use. They've historically been one of the world's major intellectual engines. This is cool about them having the oldest known constitution.

American monolingualiism looks so pitiful to Africans. It's just normative for continental Africans to eat least speak an indigenous language, & have fluency in at lease one European language, & probably more than one. My partner at seven fluent languages is above average but only that.

A lot of Africans actually speak multiple indigenous languages to communicate across ethnic groups as well as multiple European languages & maybe Arabic, normatively in their societies.
