Thanks largely to Biden and the Democratic party there is now a kind of global race to get to the mass, chear carbon-free energy. We're going to hit peak global emissions (fingers crossed) this year or next. We're deploying solar at a level that blowing away every single prediction.

"He's earned second term because of the job he's done" is a perfectly good message for surrogates to make about an incumbent candidate. "I've earned a second term because of the job I've done," is fine, but not really an optimal message for the candidate to make, imho.

that has changed and makes him unnerving to watch. The easy smile is gone that he could use to disarm just about anything. It doesn’t speak to a strict mental fitness in any way but does make it harder for him to sell himself.

I don’t have strong feelings on whether Biden is capable of doing the job, but the last couple of days have been unnerving. It struck me watching tonight that he is probably at the end of his run not for clear incapacity and because he lost his Biden smile. When I watch talking that is the thing

Johnny McEntee, one of Trump's most loyal deputies who is in regular contact with him, is literally one of the people collecting resumes for staffers who would implement Project 2025. Shame on any journalistic outfit who takes this "truth" at face value.

I've written for years about the Christian right's calls for "spiritual warfare" against demonic enemies of Christian America. They used to claim their struggle is against "powers and principalities" not "flesh and blood," citing Ephesians 6:12. But it was still dangerous. Now we see how.

i saw some folks worried that, legally, biden couldn’t be replaced on ballots - especially in crucial states like wisconsin - in time.

the heritage foundation put out a memo trying to promote this fear for example.

dave weigel reports here that it’s basically BS.

Mostly I’d say it is the regional parties and the ability to enter into coalition government makes the smaller parties more relevant

compare them to independents who occasionally win. Lib Dems is more interesting in that it consistently has seats and I think it’s because they occasionally serve in government so there is an argument they can be part of the government so essentially a Parliament changes the calculus slightly.

A couple things. Most of the other parties are regionally based such as SNP, Plaid Cymru, and the N Ireland parties. Other than the Lib Dems no other party has stuck around that isn’t regionally based. So while there are a few Green Party MP s I would compare them to the occasional independents in

I don’t know how to explain to our nation’s top editorial boards that the Democratic Party is an actual organization with a lot of rules and history to it, not just a store that distributes team jerseys, and it has already selected delegates to its nominating convention.

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)
