The second sensor for my field work is this multichannel fluorometer. It uses lasers as different wavelengths to excite a fluorescent response from algae and decaying plant matter in the water column. It also has a transmissometer to measure particle conc.

many ppl will be absolutely in despair and nihilism over the Supreme Court decision, failed debate, and Le Pen victory. at the same time, what this shows is the need for practicality and rigor, localization of political discourse, and grassroots orientation of a pro-democracy movement.

funny thing about trump is that he broke the concept of polite disagreement in politics—you either fall in line with him or get rekt. we need to understand how to make rigorous arguments, but we also can't become trumpian in rebuking/silencing/purging criticism from/within our side.

liberal-left falls into the trap of "liberal elites" labeling in part for a lot of reasons, one of which being the contention that "it's not my responsibility to educate you," which comes off as weakness/lack of argument. we *are* weak on debating, and clam up when our side is wrong.

just seems to me evidence of the failure of anti-populism among liberal progressives. elitism is not necessarily the signal problem here, bc fewer libs rlly believe they're a kind of "virtual aristocracy." but we still need to "meet the ppl where they are," make arguments, etc.

the answer ultimately comes down to whoever has the political will to do it, i think. that is one of the lessons of reconstruction, imo. without a political coalition willing to enforce the constitution whatever it takes, the laws and rules of the game are just words on paper

the fuck of it is that PSU is a *poor* university. it's not a rich ivy or a land grant university, it's a broke-ass access university that's going through the same enrollment decline and loss of revenue everyone else is. adding this to the equation tangibly hurts the students on many diff levels.
