And it will be boring. It will seem like life as usual. It won't seem "that bad" to most. They'll make it easy to turn a blind eye. It'll be too tiring to do much else. And they'll have won and our only hope at that point is that they go too far too often and tip the scales toward revolt.

And the wars will require spending and the spending will make some few rich, while they convince us that "we" have to sacrifice in order to keep the system and the nation strong and that if we work hard, then one day we too can achieve the same. And we'll gladly toil for the chance.

And it'll happen more and more as the lies of the state become more entrenched and it will become easier to deny that anything bad is actually happening. Not that you'll have time to worry about that. There will be war, conflicts we must be involved in to aid our allies because we are "exceptional"

And they'll "take care" of the problem and people will be happy for it. But there will be those that dissent, those that aren't so easy to sweep away. They'll be dealt with and you'll never be certain what happened. "Why don't Adam and Steve come around anymore?" "I heard they moved away."

But those aren't even the atrocities. Those will be hidden, rumored, obscured. They'll push people they don't approve of to the margins, find ways to make them appear as the monsters and animals they claim they are. They'll be made a real "problem" in need of a "solution" in order to protect you.

And people who may have questioned before will begin to believe it, because it's everywhere. "We still live in a free country", "if they were lying that bad 'someone's would say something". And plenty will and they'll be silenced and detained and they'll make us believe they deserved it.

And it won't happen overnight. It'll happen gradually, almost imperceptibly. The wildest right wing lies and conspiracies will become the truth as supported by the State and the media will fall in line as the profit in opposition erodes.

This is perhaps the most terrifying of truths. It's what'll allow many to claim things "aren't so bad" and that we're "overreacting". And when the bad things do happen, they'll believe the lies to cover for them because they've been allowed just enough comfort to cling to vs the risks of dissent.
