I've fully stolen this from @msrosenberg.bsky.social but this is the reason I tell my students that Gen AI is a "thing saying machine, not a thing knowing machine." It's simple, concise, and easily frames the value and risks of the tools.

Trial lawyers know very well that confidence covers all kinds of incompetence/ignorance/unpreparedness. And this is true whether the audience is a jury or a judge. Falling victim to unjustified confidence is not just a failing of pundits - it seems to be part of the human condition.

Yes, he's old, he sucks on crime policy, he's too much an institutionalist to tear down SCOTUS the way firebrands like myself would like him to. But it's not about getting to 100, and right now it's about what achieves power the most in the bonkers, screwed-up voting system we have.

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out
