It's my job to advise aspiring lawyers. In fact, today, I'll meet with a fresh batch of incoming freshmen who think they want to go to law school one day. I vacillate between "What's even the point?" and "We're going to need you to build a new Constitution, so get to work NOW."

The Democratic Party’s reaction to their candidate having a bad debate substantially outpaces the Republican Party’s reaction to their candidate being convicted of multiple felonies, held liable for rape, and owing judgments in the hundreds of millions for defamation and fraud.

I teach an undergrad class on amending the US constitution and include comparative stuff looking at state constitutions and other nations’ constitutions. Students are encouraged to look for model formulations in other contexts. So informative, and always makes me wonder why I wasn’t taught that way.

No and yes. As an intern and then after law school, I worked on state constitutional challenges to education funding and abortion restrictions. That’s where I first learned anything about state constitutions.

I should note that I have friends on both committees, among the teachers, and among the parents. It's not the individuals; it's structural. These communities are simply ungovernable.

Northampton and Amherst school committees are the entertaining (if schadenfreudlich) spectator sport for those of us in neighboring towns.

You left out Barrett’s no-but-I’m-the-reasonable-originalist. I’m looking forward to @audrelawdamercy.bsky.social’s dissection of the originalisms on display.

The truth of the new law is even funnier, tbh. It prescribes a particular text of the Ten (or maybe 11?) Commandments, an edited King James-ish version popularized by Cecil B DeMille to promote his movie of the same name. Sacred texts and all that. www.patheos.com/blogs/slackt...
