I’m not saying Biden should drop out. I’m just wondering how he wins over undecideds when teams of reporters and Twitter trolls are scrutinizing every syllable he utters for signs of impairment while every deranged thing Trump says is treated as old news. (2/2)

The mainstream media and social media environment surrounding Biden is more aggressively toxic than anything I can recall for a POTUS, Trump included. That more than anything Biden has or hasn’t done has me questioning the wisdom of him saying in. The negativity is overwhelming. (1/2)

I put together a 🧵 on Biden's speech in Madison that you can check out from the link below, no Threads account required It was a very strong showing, though it certainly won't be enough to silence the discussion about whether he should stay in the race.

If Biden can't campaign he should consider passing the torch, but the elite press (and especially the NYT) is desperately trying to will this into existence. And it's really gross. (2/2)

Biden's age and poor debate showing is obviously a legit story, but what we've seen over the last week is a hysterical feeding frenzy aimed at some combination of self-vindication, settling old scores, claiming a scalp, and the desire of some in the media to have Trump back in power. (1/2)

It’s interesting to observe how leftists who have spent years minimizing threat posed by Trump (bc they’ve been too busy shitting on Biden) are now pretending to be singularly focused on beating Trump (by pushing out Biden). Color me skeptical that they’d happily support Harris.

This from @atrupar.bsky.social on The Bad Place.

However one feels about the ultimate question on the table, the pace and frenzy with which this discourse around whether a sitting president should step aside/down because of a singular event (that embodies a larger issue) is mind-blowing.

"Amidst all the tearing of garments and vultures circling, the fact is that we’re still pretty much where we were pre-debate. There are two questions: Is Biden fit to serve? And, would Democrats benefit by forcing him off the ticket? The answers remain 'he is' and 'probably not.'"

I feel like this should go without saying but the only sane & responsible vote is November is the one that prevents Trump from taking office & finishing off American democracy. Unless something extremely surprising happens, that choice will be Joe Biden. And in any event it will be the D nominee.
