I don't think that's a fair take, particularly given the role it may need to play in cleaning up heavy industries, where we don't have other technical options.

An analysis by @gruberte.bsky.social & @francessawyer.bsky.social found the increased tax credits could require the US to provide hundreds of billions to trillions in tax savings to companies adding CCS. But whether they deliver climate benefits depends on very complex carbon math:

One company alone, CRC/Carbon TerraVault, could earn more than $15 billion for the dozens of carbon storage projects it has proposed across California.

But as @ghgpolicy.org notes, the IRA tax credits don't necessarily require that the projects deliver net climate benefits.
