Come to this article for "Florida’s second-orangest Boomer B-lister." Stay for Dave's acknowledgment that for many in US history, ideas like freedom, liberty, and inclusion have just meant "I will magnanimously allow you to agree with me." (...and buy my beer)

Has NYT done a single story on the Epstein-Trump documents yet? Am I missing it somewhere?

There’s a halcyon version of the national past where Americans across the political spectrum set aside their differences and had a beer with one another. If that ever existed, it is gone now. Hulk Hogan's new beer is a dismal bid to profit off that vision with the nation's future on the brink.

“Remember when party leaders torched 100 million dollars so I could get beat by double digits in a Senate race against Lindsey fucking Graham? Anyway, they put me in charge of the DNC after that, so calm down”

TikTok is opening its platform to booze ads. Do you think the industry can be normal about this? Do you think *Congress* can be normal about this? I certainly do not.

"The Bernie Bros and K-Hive appear to be forming an alliance," I say at the 4th of July cookout. An anvil falls out of the sky directly onto my person, killing me instantly. God appears through the clouds. "I did that," he says. Family and friends applaud politely.

I think it's because we disagree about the messaging value of his very-public Nov '22 decision compared to the eventual behind-the-scenes outcome. Which is fine!

A lot of what a president does is performance to indicate the priorities and attitude of his administration. I don't think that's groundbreaking or scandalous to say. That's part of the job.

I don't know what to tell you man. I think he has been great for labor, and he should campaign harder on it. I don't think his handling of the railroad strike was the "unqualified win" you seem to, which is why I consider it a vulnerability that his admin would have to message around.

imo Nov '22 was a missed chance to show pro-worker resolve on a major stage to normie voters w/ explicit, unmistakable action (ie, not intervening.) His calculus at the time prioritized smooth holiday business over a big public stand w/ labor. Good call or bad, he owns that too.

Biden w/ Congress forced a contract in late '22 rather than allow a strike. He owns that. ~9mos later, many (almost all by now afaik) RR workers won sick leave. Some RR unions credit Biden w/ helping. The delay, necessary ongoing labor pressure, piecemeal rollout are all qualifiers by definition.

YMMV, of course. I think he's been good for labor and he should be campaigning on that a lot more aggressively. I was just noting a potential vulnerability to that strategy.

I know they did! (Almost all of 'em, at least.) But that was a major opportunity to showcase his pro-labor bona fides on the biggest stage he's yet had (even bigger than the UAW strike imo). i think you're right that a lot of people didn't follow-up 9mos later. That's what I mean by "biffed."

Agreed. He has some self-inflicted vulnerability because he biffed it on the rail strike in 2022, but the admin's NLRB is clear-eyed and aggressive; its FTC is seriously talking about labor as an anti-trust issue in suits (e.g., Kroger-Albertsons.) It's not just that he walked the UAW strike line.

i bought a month long subscription to my old paper to read one article, because it was The Right Thing to Do™️, but i no longer live in the area, so i want to cancel it. i have completed an online form designed to trigger a phone call for cancelation (lol), and placed two follow-up calls. nada.

local newspapers must get better at managing paying subscribers' accounts. this shit was table stakes a decade ago. if you require cancelation/vacation holds/etc. over the phone, you're making yourself radioactive to most people under 40.
