Went out and did buy a new mattress and box spring earlier too. Even getting the last of a previous model for half off the price of a good mattress still pains me. But I suppose I'll have it for 10-20 years so I shouldn't grumble too much.

Thrift shopping earlier and got a great find, a hardcover Landmark Edition Arrian priced like the softcover ($30) even though the iirc well out of print hardcovers go for $200 online.

If it comes to it I'll support anyone to stop Trump but I voted (primary and general) and continue to donate to Biden specifically. And if that choice is taken away from me by a bunch of jackass pundits and media ghouls then I'm going to remember that for a long time once the election is won.

I don't know if it's that simple exactly, as the article points out it's been happening since at least 2001, but I'm sure it hasn't helped. Probably the newer owners pushing for ratings while the social media landscape changed, rewards for clicks, the farce of 'pivot to video' wrecking newsrooms etc

ngl this bullshit is making me really dislike major media and journalists, a group a year or two ago I had higher opinions of (except for NYT, they've always sucked.) That may not be fair of me but if people in those industries want people to think otherwise they could, you know, act differently.

I'm glad this has a reminder of the abysmal coverage of the Afghanistan withdrawal. Right off the bat the media went hard against Biden and any change to the GWOT status quo that let them disingenuously hand wring about how bad Afghanistan was and profile the latest general who would 'fix' it.

Though I also did a year of college there and have visited a lot starting in the late 2000s so anything from then like Genshiken or set then like Yesterday wo Utatte hit even harder. I should rewatch/reread those. Except for that last episode of Yesterday. Never happened.

Maybe I'd feel more panic about the high school setting ones if I went to high school in Japan but as it is the experiences are too different. But the college and 20-somethings ones are more universal.

I wouldn't say it's that bad but I do often bemoan the lack of strategy. We kind of have a vague medium term plan for climate that Biden got passed but it could be more coherent. Foreign policy-wise, kind of same. Ukraine and Pacific ally support is great but it's not as tightly woven as I'd like

Haha, thanks! Here's hoping on the new bedding. The bed frame itself seems fine though the center wooden beams keep having their vertical supports coming loose but I think I can cut some new ones and drill holes in for them. And if that doesn't work there are metal beam kits you can swap in.

I think I pinched a nerve or slept really wrong. Wondered if maybe my ancient mattress and box spring were to blame or not helping so I started sleeping in the guest bedroom with its new mattress. Turns out that was it, been going away. Kinda fun to spend time here, as I never use it myself.
