Notice how everyone is somehow talking about Biden Too Old right now, and NOT about how the Supreme Court just legalized Trump being a dictator for life and gutted the administrative state, and how the Heritage Foundation is now issuing terrorist threats?
Think that might not be an accident?
The important thing is that by doing nothing but amplifying Republican attacks on Biden, the liberal media can't be accused of displaying bias against Donald Trump.
Discussing the only sane candidate's flaws instead of raising alarm about his sociopathic opponent is the mark of quality journalism.
I disagree with the "everyone" premise, but...
That which is expected -- the Supremes giving Trump what he wanted -- is generally less newsworthy than that which is surprising -- the extent of Biden's deterioration, which had been quite well hidden from the public.
As far as I can tell, people seem to generally have many conversations on all these subjects. Besides, they are interconnected anyway. E.g, the Supreme Court legalizing Trump being dictator for life makes it all the more pressing to stop him; hence questions about Biden’s fitness to do so.
Uhh...people are *acutely* aware of the Trumpist hazard. That's exactly why they're discussing Biden's incapacity. They're profoundly worried he's not up to the task.
the concern is that biden is too old defeat trump, of course we're talking about it. criticism of biden isn't pro-trump, it's meant to constructive. get out, and let someone run who can win.
Accident. We knew SCOTUS would bring down their immunity ruling by the beginning of July. And the date of the first debate was the date the Biden team requested. Plus it would have suited the GOP more to have the debate immediately after the ruling to better drown out making POTUS a king.
This is why I argued in a group chat the other day that Biden needs to start running against SCOTUS and not Trump. That makes it not about Trump *or* Biden, but this lawless Court or democracy. It neutralizes Biden's biggest weakness and focuses the choice on a deeply unpopular institution.
My position is that if anyone wants to know what happens when a far-right authoritarian POTUS directs his DOJ to go after his political opponent, including via the opponent's children, one need look no further than what's happening now.
And we're focused on sticking an elder statesman in a solo to-the-death cage match, instead of hounding the rapist crook?
Can't believe we're humiliating Biden like this.
an accident? let's not get conspiratorial here. the Supreme Court is seen, rightly or wrongly, as something too thorny for the populace to resolve--we certainly can't vote them out. the presidential election itself is something we have a *degree* of power over, so that's where the interest goes.
And there are people on the left who are taking the bait, just like 2016. Biden has said it, he's staying in. Stop engaging with anyone who wants to prolong this "debate." Focus exclusively on bringing a blue wave in November.
No one else can win at this point! Support Biden Harris and STOP with the drama. Even Jesus couldn’t get on state ballots now. He’d have to get nominated first and then states couldn’t scramble fast enough. Plus GOP could block. Logistics, people!!!
this preoccupation seems to be the actual cognitive dissonance. compared to the storm of some kind of existentialism unconsciously asking for elements. It won't stop where they think it would.
It's moving so fucking quickly now and it's honestly terrifying. It's just going to escalate from here, and I'm genuinely worried about my in-laws and the rest of the family in the States.
Partner is going to get in touch with his family and urge his sisters to start thinking about getting out.
I really feel like we're all still talking about both.
1) We're all still talking about the MAGA Court's endorsement of Jan 6, Project 2025, Trump's plan for dictatorship.
2) We're talking about reasonable concerns about Biden's abilities to *win*.
3) We're volunteering, giving money, writing reps.
The only on-air people who seem to give a shit about our future are Nicolle Wallace, Joy Reid, Rachel Maddow, Alex Wagner, Jen Psaki and Lawrence O'Donnell and some of the weekend anchors at MSNBC. The rest don't seem to realize they will be murdered too.
and when you look back you find a woman standing for president warning us about this kind of thing, and no one was listening properly. As my mum always said, its never to late to do something. ( she learned to drive at 75)
Full-on psyop, and hear me out. I think the Trump immunity decision was the kind of emotional system shock we haven't seen in some years. We are scared, but Americans tend not to stay scared like that for long. We get *mad* - 'wake the sleeping giant' mad. But that anger isn't productive 1/-
