i get why this pisses people off--this pisses me off too!--but it's not a sign of cognitive decline? idgi. are people really just now grasping that joe biden has failed to appreciate the threat of trump/the right/the supreme court?

I don't see how you can say "it's not whether you win or lose it's how you play the game" is cognitively disqualifying when Biden says it without also saying that it was equally disqualifying all of the times other Dems like pelosi have said that lame canard about wanting there to be a strong gop

I hope his military advisors are pressuring him to act. If he doesn't do anything I doubt they'll all be in agreement about serving King Trump.

Literally his next words were about how important his being President was to preserving NATO and keeping China in check.

Once again, aesthetics are king. Doesn’t matter that all the substantive threats have been there all along (and in the entire GOP, not just trump!), one sleepy debate isn’t the straw that broke the camel’s back—it’s the only persuasive argument to 80% of the dem establishment

Exactly On the positive side, this at least means that more people are appreciating the threat of trump/the right/the Supreme Court.

Did people watch that long? I dipped after like the fifth "but really, don't you think you're senile?"

This drives me up the wall, but it’s exactly the answer Biden would have given in 2020, 2012, 2000, 1988… it’s the answer of an Institutionalist with an unshakable faith in The System. His answer shows he’s was the wrong candidate 6+ months ago for political reasons, not now for age/health reasons.

What is he supposed to say? I will rend my clothes and pull out my hair, for all is lost?

And no, that’s not “a sign of cognitive decline.” That’s you projecting your feelings. What else could he have said that would make you happy other than “yep, I’m dropping out?”

Yes. His job, or whoever is the Democratic nominee, is to give their all. Our job is to vote for them. You’re hanging the fate of the election on the nominee. It’s an easy way out when whoever runs loses. “Well, they weren’t my first choice. Not my fault.” Ugh.

this is why he was my last choice in 2020 and what had me tearing my hair out and screaming endlessly for the last 4 years, but the cake is baked on that

It's not hypocritical to stage manage a really old candidate when the line is "that guy's lying almost killed democracy", but it looks hypocritical to a voter, and not realizing that will make you fail in a moment we cannot afford to fail in

I think insofar as it's related it's that it helps explain why he won't drop out, not why he should drop out.

I think a lot of Democrats really are just getting that now. So the people who've been beating this drum for years (including myself) are finally finding a receptive audience for it

Biden’s pride shall be the death of US democracy. It’s not about him ‘doing his best’ it’s about knowing when to step aside. There isn’t a single person currently planning to vote Biden who wouldn’t vote for his replacement. A replacement would likely win a lot of non-voters too. It’s only upside

"Biden said a generic platitude, clearly this is evidence he is senile" do these people hear themselves? what do they want him to say instead? he's clearly not dropping out, and I think "Kamala can't win it" would also make them mad

i think it’s just a reminder of how insufficient he is. if you’re on the fence and asking yourself “is this a guy I’m going to go to bat for right now?” and see this shit, it might just break your resolve
