One day I will not make a typo. Today is not that day/ Survey data is great. That survey doesn’t tell us much that is useful. Unite your party. Divide theirs.

“Biden won’t do anything because this only helps presidents that break the law “ No shit. The Supreme Court just changed what is lawful. Take advantage of that.

Unless they’re going to go crazy and nominate Tom hanks or Halle Berry or some shit, Biden’s the guy and everyone who believes in democracy weds to get behind him.. unless he dies.

Yeah. I remember those games. I’m a Virginia tech fan though… so I don’t think Michigan fans really understand CFB pain.

It’s fun because they’re all like “let’s look at the evidence” when there’s an argument the could possibly in one interpretation of the evidence be right. And, now, when most of the evidence suggests they are wrong, they ignore it.

I wish more people were aware of the local and regional political machines that actually run the country. You know what Pelosi, Harris, and Newom have in common? The Getty machine. Which is one of the closest things we have to Tammany hall today.

But also, you’re correct that the fact that the VP and Newsom are both beholden to the same benefactors plays a role.

Alternatively, its an admission that she was wrong. Hakeem Jeffries has been a significant upgrade and I don’t even like his politics much. She was not the best option for a minority leader during the Trump years.

Reminder that even if Democrats drag Biden or someone else over the finish line, the threats to democracy will still remain. One party winning every time is not a plan (nor a democracy). And the president will still have the power to commit crimes with impunity even if the next one doesn't use it.

1000000% What has the Democratic Party done in the last 20 years that suggests it could handle this well? Imho, virtually nothing.

They remaining members of the house and senate should then use their power to bolster democracy, ban insurrectionists from serving, and undue the harm the Roberts court has inflicted upon society. Democrats won’t do this, but it’s the right thing to do in this scenario.

If Democrats were actually willing to play constitutional hardball, Biden would have rounded up every insurrectionist in the House, Senate, and Courts the minute the opinion dropped.

If the media freak out about Biden’s age has changed the race, that says a lot about the media and what it says is very, very bad for this country. But it also means democrats should behave completely differently than they do today.

Back in late 2020 I advocated for expelling all the members of Congress who voted against certifying, then using the rump majorities you'd gain after to pass court reform (who'd ratify the legality of this maneuver). Radical proposal! but the alternatives of doing nothing were more radical

what’s really going to be wild is if we ditch a sitting president for the second time in history based on a fullbore media and social media freakout and then everyone goes back to claiming media narratives don’t matter in politics

I think it’s a bit of a catch-22. In the short term, supporting guys like Golden is probably a good idea. In the long term, I think doing so does significant harm and probably costs many more seats than it wins. But you’ve gotta risk losing Golden’s seat to find out.

~1/3 of the electorate watched the debate and the type of person most likely to watch is probably the type least likely to influence the elections outcome.

I think there are 2 big issues. 1. Based on the current evidence and history, Biden still looks like the safest bet against Trump. 2. I have no faith that the party will act like a team if Biden drops out which would lead to chaos. That sucks. But you’ve gotta play the hand you’re dealt.

At some point, powerful Democrats might want to consider the possibility that their inability to act like a team may be one of the reasons Biden isn’t doing better.

This has been my argument the entire campaign. It remains true. When you look at the big picture, Biden is the safest option to beat Trump based on the currently available data. I don’t like it, but it’s true.

If the evidence continues to shit in this direction, I’ll get on the trade Biden for Harris train…. If and only if the Democratic Party unifies behind Harris. Given the unknowns and history, I don’t think this is a strong enough argument to replace Biden yet, but that could change quickly.

Little of the public knows much about the Democrats alternative candidates. The candidates don’t have enough time to become well known on their own. That means they will be almost exclusively defined by the media in the eyes of voters.

One thing that annoys me about the Democratic consultant class is how they act like they're brass-knuckle streetfighters and yet don't have the stones to run nonstop ads about Trump's extensive connections to Jeffrey Epstein. It's all true! It's documented! There are photos!

I think this vibe is endemic to the entirety of left of center politics to varying degrees. Think about Biden trying to fact check Trump in the debate. For whatever reason many believe it’s more important to be right than to be effective.

The 14th Amendment says if you were involved in an insurrection you can't be president. SCOTUS said they won't allow anyone to enforce that because of reasons they made up. The Constitution doesn't say the president is immune from criminal law. SCOTUS decided he is because of reasons they made up.

Either the Supreme Court is legitimate and Biden needs to use the power it has granted him. Or it’s not and Democrats need to start ignoring its demands. This in between thing is loser shit.

Ought to pound this every hour, every day right alongside Dobbs. Biden's age is nothing compared to the lawless Supreme Court trying to make criminals of pregnant women while offering a rapist free rein. Any Democratic commentator who thinks otherwise needs to hit the showers.
