At long last! My favorite film of 2023 is available for rent and purchase! SHE IS CONANN! A woman wanders the afterlife, revisiting herself every ten years to kill the woman she was to become the woman she must be. Shot like BARBARELLA on mescaline. A full blown assault on the senses! FUCKING 🖤 IT!

My senior year of High School I helped our academic quiz team win our regional contest by answering the question about a book described as being about "Drugs and sex and sex and sex" and I nearly jumped out of my seat to scream NAKED LUNCH! Everyone in the room noticed my vibrating enthusiasm.

As someone who was in their late-teens in the 90s I fell into the Burroughs/Beat Poetry/Slam Poetry revival. I was reading Ginsberg and the Nuyorican poets at the same time. So this movie and the book Naked Lunch became a wide-eyed soul-rush for my burgeoning queer heart.

I started listening to Dayspring by Anthony Oliveira yesterday. I'm halfway through it now and it is pure ecstasy. A queer, erotic, poetic, post-modern gospel from the POV of John the Beloved is kind of exactly what I needed right now. Breathtaking.

This trailer alone was giving me anxiety and trauma feelings. Now I know that I never have to fucking see this.

I will also add that the bizarre voice breaking vocal bends in this song make me want to throw up. I don't know why. It's like the audio equivalent of shaky cam.

Keep Your Hands to Yourself by the Georgia Satellites. My dad played in a bar cover band for years and I heard this song eleventymillion times. As a consequence I completely understand popular artists who never want to play one of their greatest hits ever again.

I was about to say something very serious about setting context and plot hooks for the GM to spin out from, since that's how I use them. But now I have Dracula from Castlevania SotN in my head saying "What is a campaign guide? A miserable little pile of plot hooks."

It's always been that way. When I was a child in the early 80's my small town Ohio third grade play was heavily protested by satanic panic parents. They claimed the play promoted witchcraft (the Sorcerer's Apprentice) and homosexuality because there was a wish granting fairy played by a young girl.

If you need something chill and interesting to watch, I would love to recommend Early Medieval Embroidery. She's just begun doing a recreation of the Bayeux Tapestry and it's wonderful.

@joshuaconkel.bsky.social a propos of historically set Evil Dead concepts, did you ever check out the Netflix series Kingdom where there's a zombie outbreak in feudal Korea? It's costume porn for days, but also the zombies are pretty awesome.

When you said you were revisiting the film adaptation of Books of Blood I knew you were referencing the 2020 Hulu film. But did you all cover the 2009 Book of Blood movie?

We’ve called movie posters “fire” before, but this time we really mean it. Check out this new poster for LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL with David Dastmalchian, whose never been hotter! (Okay, we’ll stop with the fire jokes, we don’t wanna… burn any bridges.)

Book industry open secret, folks: If a title on a NYT bestseller list features a dagger in its description? Like this?

It means they've made it to bestseller status through suspicious means, specifically bulk-buy orders instead of sales to individual customers. They're scammin'.
