Justice Sotomayor using her annual pre-June public talk to give a barely veiled warning that the Supreme Court is about to do some truly terrible things www.nytimes.com/2024/05/24/u...
Justice Sotomayor, please don't cry: SHOUT. Don't "respectfully dissent," saying "the reasoning used by the justices here is contrary to that which they used in...", say "these people are just cynical right-wing hacks making shit up to reach their preordained conclusions. Pack this fucking court."
Co-workers. Ugh. What 'ya gonna do?
We appear to be in intractable times.
Surely not forever, but for now, it sucks.
Sad to think the best outcome imaginable is the ethical struggle she'd endure over whether or not to call for an ambulance while watching one of them stroke out...
Maybe she shouldn’t have toured the country all spring with Amy Comey Barrett chiding the public for “losing respect for the courts” and “lacking civility”.
Voting “split ticket” means a goon like Mitch McConnell can hijack a SCOTUS appointment and deprive Obama of appointing a justice
It means a goon like Trump can appoint religious zealots and a majority Republican senate will confirm them
As does most of America. Serving with a group of seditionists is disheartening but I hope that she will persevere, America can not lose a grounded intelligent and caring individual to serve us.
For a long time, the courts in America have been less about justice and more about political affiliation.
Every judgement is appended by which Administration appointed the judge and this is implicit acceptance of political fealty and gives a free hand to ignore justice when delivering judgements.
Why isn't the supreme court more like a jury...
or at the very least, made up of equally leaning left and right members at all times. And all decisions must be unanimous.
Make it so.
