RETVRN to traditional masculinity when Real Men would tote around their babby kitties in case they needed kisses on their fuzzy little heads. Photo from my collection, no date/info.

Plot twist: they *always* need kisses on their fuzzy little heads! Stay vigilant for smooch-deprived kitties!

Yessss, fellow vopro volunteer! I volunteered (and am coming back to volunteer) in a different complicated red state, but the experience was very similar! ❤️

Is this where the "it's common sense, I fear" meme came from, or are there more of them??

Yeah, if you're the first person they talk to after getting 100 emails overnight from the same increasingly upset person (whether or not they're on your side), giving them something annoying-but-manageable to deal with could actually hit the sweet spot.

Genuinely, unironically love when blind audience members or those with intellectual disabilities ask nitpicky pain-in-the-ass questions about my team's data, because it means we presented it accessibly enough that they got to ask something other than "what were the numbers on that slide??"

The military was still by far the biggest employer of the ~60% of my classmates who made it to graduation, but the JROTC kids at least had a fighting shot at making an informed decision.

Hilariously, I was in JROTC in high school (long story) and the instructors (all retired recruiters) were the ones who explained and deconstructed all the specific tricks and bullshit the current recruiters would be targeting us with.

it’s time to take a step back, go find something beautiful, and stare at it until you remember how much there is in this world that’s worth fighting for

feel like this is such an important point about accessibility overall people don't realize that framing someone's everyday lived experience as something inherently negative is not sympathy or solidarity it's actually extremely fucked up!

What's your bsky discourse intro music?
Mine is probably "Monument" by Mirah, which probably explains why I'm usually tangential to The Discourse.

if you're wondering what to do in this moment, find an *existing* project and ask how to support it. there's not enough time to launch a bunch of new projects that hit the same early-stage stumbling blocks...

THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right:
"Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."

Not gonna lie, today has been a pretty demoralizing day of work (and I honestly haven't even checked the news). Looking forward to the kickoff call tonight for voter protection hotline volunteers, a very concrete way to feel like I'm doing *something.*

if you’ve stopped masking for whatever reason, you can start again.
it makes spaces more accessible, it helps preserve your health and the health of the people around you.
it’s a tiny action you can take to make the world safer.

Sometimes I'll half-joke that my pronouns are "she, but not like that" and "they, but not like that" - it's definitely been a process on my end as well, and I'm not totally satisfied with where I've landed; it's just the closest approximation so far. 😉

Yep, I use she/they, and since pretty much no one bothers with "they" in conversation, I use it exclusively when I'm writing bios so I can at least hear it sometimes. But it's not uncommon to be introduced with my bio verbatim except with all the pronouns changed to "[pause] she." 🫠

you'll often see a cat's ear twitch for no reason. that's because a ghost is talking to them. ghosts talk to cats constantly. they never shut up. that's why cats are so tired all the time. some random dead Victorian dude won't stop telling them how much mutton costs in 1872.

God, if this were *real,* it would be an amazing resource for people writing vital documents - existing readability checkers only really look at sentence length and not vocabulary complexity. But yeah, the marketing sucks and I have zero faith in either the process or the output. 😕
