i think the thing that is leading me to check out of the biden conversation as much as possible is the sheer amount of certainty being expressed. i am not at all confident that i really know anything here!

it is unfortunate that "independent, non-aligned" almost always means something very bad. it's like if you have to make a point of saying it, it's not a good sign

If I was *really* committed to this bit, I'd have a dozen posts saying despite the NYT's explanation that it was an error on Meta's end, several Times editors discussed how they were "getting roasted in the replies," by "really mean shitlibs," according to a source familiar with the conversations.

Now everyone--The Times and, sorry to say, MSNBC--is noting every missed syllable. The man has a stutter. I don't stutter but I am a mushmouth who speaks too fast and slurs words. I've had to overcome fear of public speaking. I have empathy for Biden. The press has empathy for no one (but Trump).

the other thing is that people have no sense of how much space cars and so they imagine that a road full of cars must be a lot of people when it very often is not. a well-used bike lane transports like twice as many people during a given time as does a road

man, you work in a cubicle or a kitchen or a factory or a warehouse or wherever you work, the NYT oped board thinks you work in a corner office with an expansive view of NYC and go home to a 3BR apartment in a high rise, but you don’t have to believe them or treat them as if you do.

worth pointing out that this complete and utter POS did vote in both 2020 and 2022, so this entire article is not only BS but a demonstrable lie disseminated by the NYT, this is yet another psy op by Sulz to rig the election for the guy who they think will get them better ratings

History will recall that the New York Times, that bastion of "the liberal media," on July 4, 2024 chose to give prime space on their op-ed page to a theocratic absolutist who argued that people shouldn't vote, even though he himself has voted in the last 2 elections (but nowhere is that mentioned).

This scaling arguably allows officially non-genius (i.e., 2/7 or 3/7) characters to really highlight intelligence without being bound by the stats or The Smart Guy baggage. Conversely, “Lex Luthor’s a 10th-level intellect” (humanity as a whole’s at 6 levels) can only disappoint in practice.

Pete’s a 4/7 re: intellect in statbooks, so the implication of “250 IQ” is that real-life Feynman would be considered “mildly clever.” Presumably this also serves to justify how e.g. Tony Stark, Hank Pym et al. are able to treat the laws of physics like mere suggestions.

Tying into “intelligence in comics has lost the plot” noted above: Bruce Wayne, DC’s third-smartest human, has a canonical IQ of 192. Peter Parker’s is 250, and in Marvel he’s smart but not quite a Feynman equivalent. Of course, DC also says Lex is smarter than all other humans combined.

Joker should only appear once a year in the Bat-comics, but those appearance are highest stakes. Riddler & Bane are Bruce’s primary nemeses (Riddler menaces Gotham, Bane sits on the Legion of Doom)

Spider-Man: Life Story is very good, and Avengers Twilight seems solid. Could be that Chip’s just a much better fit for Marvel than DC (in the same way that Grant Morrison’s a much better fit for DC than Marvel)
