Honestly still in shock that the most crooked American President in history said "I need immunity" and the GOP Supreme Court said "well, it's nowhere in the constitution, but sure, why not? Whats the worst that could happen?"
Me too... but that's the ruling 34-felon & Republicans paid for.
We have to believe them when they they show us who they are.
Now, do we just whine and complain, or do we vote them out! Every d*** one of them!
Biden needs to instruct his justice department to go after the Federalist Society and find the points of coordination that connect them with trumps legal team, Cannon and SCOTUS.
The right wing cannot & will not accept that party affiliation wasn’t the reason for Trump’s legal mess. All who enter politics are scrutinized—he made bigger messes due to ego. SCOTUS apparently now responds to cases on the basis of party. It’s the only explanation I can come up with.
the thing I dont get is why our "leaders" have decided that the Supreme Court is more important than the law. Like as you say: this is nowhere in the constitution; the obvious response is to call it the unfounded BS it is, state that the SC is not above the constitution which empowers it(1/2)
There once was a felon called Trump
An ignorant racist old grump
He should have been jailed
When his coup d'état failed
But a rogue supreme court kissed his rump
🔥🇺🇸🔥 In the face of Monday's #treasonous#SCOTUS' presidential immunity ruling, this #July4th#IndependenceDay is MUCH diminished. We have a new monarch called the "President." King George III must be 🤣🤣🤣 laughing his ass off in his grave. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Steph
Treason and bribery are the only crimes mentioned in the constitution and explicitely as reasons to impeach and then criminally prosecute the President.
SCOTUS went explicitely against the constitution
Back in the 70s/80s, the neoconservatives supporters of The John Birch Society created a new org, The Federalist Society and with the backing of a number of the grotesquely wealthy, now have control of nearly 1/2 the country, and 6 of the 9 members of the SCROTUS
Barring the use of official acts as evidence proves this decision was tailored to get Trump off the hook.
As far as I remember, this wasn't even argued.
The current President should publicly order the assassination of that same GOP Supreme Court quoting his immunity. Seriously. Seems harsh I know but I reckon they'd change their tune in a heart beat. It'd teach them the error of their argument.
Right? Especially after their insane maximalist position in Bruen proved untenable. Lol, making guns almost unregulatable worked out so well let’s make presidents completely accountable.
It’s consistent with the idea that Roberts is a Republican partisan who has in the past worked to project moderation for political reasons, to avoid media scrutiny. Right?
Don’t get me wrong, I was shocked too that he’d just go for it so openly.
Don’t forget: a Supreme Court that purports to be guided by what the people who wrote the Constitution said. People who, if they had meant for this, could have written it down, oh, I don’t know, somewhere.
And the black republican in the GOP wishes to overturn the law that would allow him to stay married with his wife. You know, the one that allows mixed race couples?
Hold on, are people genuinely surprised that was the outcome or is it the expansiveness of the opinion? I was expecting immunity but not the bright green light for “official acts.”
I feel exactly the same. It's not for a President who might be breaking the law, while doing something noble while he's at it, it's for straight criminal conduct. For Donald Fucking Trump.
I didn't think they'd do it after they shot down ISL last year. Yes, they were gonna do all these other terrible things but they wouldn't be so bold as to do that. Surely two of the conservatives would peel away.
But no. In four days SCOTUS makes the biggest powergrab any branch had in a century.
Roberts gave himself an emphatic pat on the back for saying he *wasn’t* thinking about Donald Trump (that’s the dissent’s tawdry business) he’s thinking ~long term~
How could you not think about Trump! He’s a walking refutation of everything you’re saying!
Well if George Washington was convicted of 34 felonies 3 years after leaving office obviously the answer would have been the same, the constitution doesnt change right
but he should have waited as now he has given biden the golden ticket to eliminate him as a threat to america and political opponent which is why trump wants immunity for his current crimes and the crimes he intends to commit once reelected and giving this to him means he has no limits fear that
I’m sure I can hear Alitos’ neighbor screaming, “CUNNNNNNTS!!!!!” from many states away. Poor woman’s gonna lose her voice and her mind, and I am right there with her.
Ahh! The real joy of owning the Supreme Court is....
OWNING THE SUPREME
COURT....
(especially when Democrats are too chickenshit to do anything about it....bad optics, ya know . . wouldn't be "woke").
It's shocking. I was one of the people who guessed wrong about how far the SCOTUS would go on this case, so I was surprised and shocked. I do not think the comparisons to the enabling acts are glib. I'm further depressed by how muted the media response is to the decision relative to its importance.
Time to fill the streets. Time to vote. Time to #OccupyTheMedia, too--if they want to help Fascists, they can be the front line for them for a while. No more cushy coffee and a poison pen column, Peter Baker.
They are basically trying to corruptly undo every progressive thing going back to before the first Civil War. It's why they basically ignored the 14th Amendment when the question was put before them. It's why they also retroactively exonerated Nixon in the process.
This is awful and terrible.
But there are still avenues left open: the Supreme Court has not (yet) passed out immunity to the underlings. Navarro and Bannon are eating prison food.
When going after an untouchable, the thing to do is go after his support network.
That's how they got Escobar.
Some may remember how shitty we felt when Bush beat (cheated, chadded) Al Gore. That is nothing compared to what we felt in 2016 and will be a blessing compared to what might come our way this November.
Man Made Monster must be stopped
