On my last visit, I took my sister to see our grandpa’s farm in Mayo. It’s vacant now, so I knocked on a neighbor’s door to make sure we were in the right spot. The neighbor confirmed we were and in the next breath invited us in for tea. Amazing.

One of my earliest lessons from Irish Twitter was how awful so many Irish-Americans are. I now describe myself as a person with Irish ancestry just to create a little distance. That, and referring to my two Famine immigrant ancestors as refugees to get a rise out of my cousins.

The only reason republican states are trying to add further restrictions is to prevent poorer people without access to the additional documentation from voting. This has nothing to do with preventing non-citizens from voting.

I think it’s more than technology. The content is disturbing, but even more is The reaction on getting caught. The “so what, learn to take a joke” is what one of my ed friends found the most worrisome. That and the widespread student participation is a five alarm yikes.

No, but these are veteran teachers who have been dealing with 13 year olds for years. That they are bewildered and horrified by this behavior indicates that it’s different from what we’ve seen in the past and is alarming.

The key to managing anxiety is not spending too much time on any one worry. You've got to mix it up and sprinkle in a variety of existential concerns. There's plenty of time to circle back to the US disaster.

This is particularly important to understand because Trumpist authoritarianism is the descendent of Jim Crow far more than say Hitler or Pinochet or Orban, and it's going to look a lot more like 1930s Mississippi than 1930s Berlin.

But you’re right that these are complex topics. No degree will prepare teachers for every content area for which they will ultimately be responsible. Good school districts offer robust professional development opportunities for their educators so they can continually improve their teaching.
