This is also why it's so important to live your life not online all the time. There's a certain amount of performance to personality in online social spaces where one may feel compelled to love or loathe or opine or Take Positions because that's how one Engages a platform. But what if you...didn't?

YOKE OF STARS (aka my fish communism novella) is releasing on July 16, 2024.

I've been off social media because of the state of my health.

If you feel like spreading the word about the book, I'd much appreciate it.

The absurd, humiliating, unnecessary bureaucracy surrounding access to medication assisted treatment feels like it's really designed to not actually help people at all.

Ah, FB memories serving up some winners. This is what an itemized $1,330,000 NICU hospital bill looks like (only 96 days to get there). The apple is there for scale. Here’s why I share it. Too many ppl don’t know abt lifetime caps and pre-existing bans. Bc the STILL-VULNERABLE ACA banned them.

If I am awake in the early morning
I tend to look for the dead

If I am lucky a few will still be out
Agog at the birdsong
As if hearing it for the first time
They stand frozen in the yard
Their stiff necks turning
Their broken jaws agape

Undone and in love
At the sight and sound of a robin

I’m no fan of Biden and am so far left of the Democratic Party you can’t even see me from there, but this thread is incredible. Thoughtful, careful, to the point.

I don't like the policies of the Reagan era, but the nation survived I detest defending that administration--but why is there a different standard for Democrats? Especially when a Trump dictatorship is at stake? Makes zero sense. And Biden is much better shape than the Gipper.

Did the electorate abandon him in this crucial moment when the US could snuff out Hitler's Third Reich? No, they did not. If you're talking "replace Biden" now, I have a question: why are you so much weaker than voters in 1944? Would you have handed over the White House to the America Firsters?

If you think that voting doesn't matter, you're naive and reckless. If you think the work stops with voting, you're ignorant about how much our horrific systems and structures continue to harm under every presidency. The work encompasses and surpasses voting. We have big, big work to do.

Once again: The actual POTUS doesn't do a lot. Who they (*groans* he) tap(s) for key staff jobs, however, is critical and winds up having a profound impact on policy and the running of this joint. The amount things don't fall apart matters. Project 2025 REALLY SOFA KING MATTERS, friends

Reminder that garlic scapes, basil, and young carrot top greens are all in season at the same time, and if you make pesto out of the three together the carrot greens are perfect at balancing the sharpness of the garlic, and it's fabulous! Big batches freeze well too. Just add olive oil & parm.

THE SNOW QUEEN (1988) Acrylic on Panel - 36" x 24" Joan Vinge provided plenty of inspiration in the pages of this book, and in fact, my first response was that there was way too much epic quality to capture in one illustration. 1/3

"Sometimes I wonder if all this coverage is because the media knows how to cover a normal problem like a sub-par candidate; they don’t know how to cover something as abnormal and unprecedented as the end of the republic. So for the most part they don’t."

Morning after in France. Profoundly grateful to everyone who came together to put up a barrage against the far right. I will caution the far right still got 37% of the total vote, so the work isn't over. But hey, I'll take the win. Oh, and FYI that picture of Le Pen going around is from 2017.

This is a subtweet about Frankenstein because I don't want to be a dick, but I also want some facts out there. 1. Most novels at the time were anonymous. We can't make definite judgements about why Mary Shelley's name wasn't on it. It was common practice. The novel was barely respectable. 1/?

this, friends, is why i’ve been so clear that i don’t want to discuss voting on here. folks will scream at strangers on the internet but not do the harder work of getting their own people. i don’t have the energy for those folks; i have to get my own people.

Yup. Not every parameter is a useful one to track for every writer! For me, I'm such a massive overwriter-then-trimmer that wordcount is literally useless as a measure of progress. Like 20-40% of those words won't be there in the final draft!
