patreon continually getting worse frustrates me greatly because it's literally a money printing middle-man service where all you've gotta do is keep the lights on and comply with banking laws, but instead they hoover up venture capital just to flail endlessly and make things worse for their users.

I’ve seen people responding to this as though either OP is criticizing the child or as a reason to criticize “this generation.” And both of these takes are nonsense. Kids are using ChatGPT this way because this is also how adults are using it, and this is about how it is a dangerously bad tool

Growing up in a family that didn't like welfare, their emotional position was 1) being unable to feed your kids is a moral failing and we shouldn't help people like that, and 2) they didn't want to give even a few cents from their earnings to help. Needless to say, I strongly disagree with both.

This is why we HAVE to teach our little kids about how to verify facts, what sources are legit (and how to tell), and how these languages models work. My kids' schools did/do (as best they could), and I have hammered it home. My teens are now savvy internet denizens. It starts early. VERY early.
