I started an interrogation of a mourning mother standing by her bedroom door, slowly crossed the room, and finally sat with her on the bed as I asked my most invasive questions. That's high-level gameplay. (Later you learn the real significance of that scene and it completely collapses, of course.)

Seeing Heavy Rain for sale reminded me that it is absolutely worth paying $5 to play that batshit game. I paid like $50 and regret nothing. It's baffling, insane, a total failure, but it also has five or six of the best sequences I've seen in a game.

Pascal's wager is a bad argument for belief in God (there are too many gods to believe in; your odds of selecting the right one to bet on are much worse than the odds God is benign and will forgive your disbelief) but the logic often holds elsewhere. We might as well believe that life is possible.

When I'm reading the news, I update a little document that tracks whether the events in every ongoing storyline prove that my friends and I were right about previous controversies. One of my early takes was "everything is terrible," so I find that most events can be read as vindicating me.
